Minister Bui Thanh Son received Chairman of the Korea - Vietnam Economic and Cultural Exchange Association (KOVECA) Kwon Sung Taek.

During the visit, on the afternoon of May 30, 2024, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son received Chairman of the Korea - Vietnam Economic and Cultural Exchange Association (KOVECA) Kwon Sung Taek.

At the reception, Minister Bui Thanh Son said that this visit to Korea is of great significance to work with the Korean Foreign Minister to promote the implementation of high-level agreements between the two countries, including reviewing the implementation of the Action Program to implement the Vietnam - Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership signed by the two governments on the occasion of Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol's visit to Vietnam in June 2023.

Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that the prestige, enthusiasm and tireless dedication of KOVECA members have contributed to strengthening the friendship between the people of the two countries and promoting multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries; expressing his belief that KOVECA and its members will continue to take the lead and play a core role in promoting good cooperation between the two countries; encourage Korean enterprises to increase investment and trade cooperation with Vietnam; coordinate to support, protect and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community living, working and studying in Korea. In particular, he hoped that the Association would pay attention to and support Korean-Vietnamese multicultural families, which would contribute to strengthening the friendship between the two countries.

Chairman Kwon Sung Taek expressed his deep gratitude for the support of the Minister and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam for the Association's activities and highly appreciated the support in organizing economic cooperation and cultural exchange events in Vietnam; affirmed that he will continue to make more efforts for the development of the Vietnam - Korea relationship and strengthen the friendly relations between the two peoples in the coming time.

At the reception, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his delight at the very good development of the Vietnam - Korea relationship over the past 30 years with many important achievements in all fields, thereby bringing practical benefits to both sides; highly appreciated the very important contributions of generations of Presidents of the Association and members of the Association, many of whom have a deep understanding of Vietnam. This is an important foundation contributing to strengthening the friendship between the two nations and enhancing cooperation and exchange activities between the people of the two countries. Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his belief and hope that the leaders of the Association and its members will continue to take the lead and promote their core role in promoting multifaceted cooperation between the two countries; coordinate to support, protect, and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community living, working and studying in Korea.

For his part, Chairman Lee Shin Jae expressed his deep gratitude for the support of the Minister and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam for the Association's activities; affirmed that he would make every effort for the friendship of the two nations, for the interests of the people of the two countries, thereby contributing to strengthening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries in the coming time.

* Also on the afternoon of May 30, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son worked with Chairman of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Chang Won Sam.

At the meeting, Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his delight at the increasingly substantive and effective development of the cooperative relationship between KOICA and relevant Vietnamese agencies, especially in the field of Vietnam's socio-economic development; assessed that the capital provided by KOICA, especially the non-refundable aid from the Korean Government through KOICA, has contributed positively to the development of infrastructure serving people's lives such as hospitals, schools, and vocational schools.

The exchange and experience sharing programs implemented by KOICA have brought practical results in enhancing friendship and mutual understanding between the people of the two countries.

To implement the cooperation agreement between the two countries' senior leaders in the field of development cooperation (ODA), Minister Bui Thanh Son proposed that KOICA: continue to expand ODA provision to Vietnam in new areas that Vietnam prioritizes for development in the coming time, such as semiconductor engineering training, innovation, green economy, circular economy, high-tech agriculture and humanitarian assistance; study the plan to coordinate with the Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) to implement ODA projects of the Korean Government in Vietnam to increase the efficiency of use; promote official commitment for the Rural Electricity Supply Project from the national grid in Dien Bien province.

KOICA President Chang Woon Sam affirmed that the Korean Government is very interested in and wishes to promote the development of the Korea-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in general and Vietnam's socio-economic development in particular; emphasizing that the Korean Government and KOICA always consider Vietnam a strategic partner in ODA cooperation, thereby deciding to provide non-refundable aid of 200 million USD to Vietnam in the period of 2024 - 2027 to contribute to Vietnam's socio-economic development, focusing on the fields of environment, climate change response, health, education, and digital transformation; initially providing 52 million USD in 2024 to focus on the fields of public administration development, health, education and expanding to the fields of climate change response and digital transformation.

At the reception, Minister Bui Thanh Son said that the State and people of Vietnam are very excited and proud to witness the Ly family members settling down, uniting, developing successfully in Korea and increasingly making important contributions to the development of Korea; emphasizing that the journey of more than 30 years of Vietnam - Korea relations is not long, but with efforts, determination and trust, the two countries have achieved many great achievements, including valuable contributions and significant companionship and efforts of the Ly family members of Vietnam in Korea.

Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son highly appreciated the Ly family members in Korea who always turn to their homeland, with the morality of “remembering the source of water when drinking”, always trying to contribute to the development of the country and the relationship between Vietnam and Korea. At the same time, he affirmed that the Party and State of Vietnam always consider the Ly family members as well as overseas Vietnamese in Korea as an inseparable part of the nation and always pay much attention and support to help them develop in their homeland and succeed in doing business in their homeland.

Minister Bui Thanh Son agreed that the activities towards Vietnam organized by the Ly family are important and practical, serving as a link between Vietnam and Korea, strengthening the friendship between the two peoples; expressing his hope that the people of the two Ly families will continue to turn towards the Fatherland, supporting their homeland in many diverse forms.

Representatives of the Vietnamese Ly family in Korea expressed pride in their positive contributions to the development of Korea, increasingly gaining a worthy position in Korean society; at the same time, they always have activities towards their homeland such as organizing delegations to visit Vietnam on holidays, introducing the market, investment conditions in Vietnam and mobilizing Korean businesses to invest in Vietnam, helping Vietnamese brides in Korea quickly integrate and adapt to Korean life and culture.
