Theeducation of revolutionary traditions for students in the province is no longer limited to monotonous theoretical lectures. Instead, history has been vividly recreated through each learning activity and practical experience, contributing to igniting national pride, arousing the will to rise up and civic responsibility in each student. From formal lessons to flag-salute activities, from history competitions to "back to the source" trips to historical sites, the flow of tradition is seeping into each classroom and each young heart.
Living History from Classroom to Experiential Journey
Realizing the special significance of the 50th anniversary of national reunification, from the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, the Department of Education and Training has issued specific guidelines to synchronously implement revolutionary tradition education activities in educational institutions. Accordingly, educational content is integrated into the main curriculum, extracurricular activities, flag-raising activities and experiential sessions, with the goal of nurturing national pride, patriotism, awareness of preserving and promoting the heroic historical values of the nation.
No longer limited to “teaching history” in the traditional way, many schools have implemented creative and lively activities, making history more familiar and attractive to students. At Viet Bac High School (Lang Son City), the flag-raising ceremony in early April left a deep impression: students not only listened to veterans recount heroic memories of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, but also immersed themselves in an emotional artistic space through revolutionary songs, valuable documentary films and meaningful exchanges with the Provincial Veterans Business Association. All of these have aroused national pride and the desire to contribute in each student.
That spirit continues to spread widely to other schools in the province. For example, at the Van Quan District Boarding Secondary and High School for Ethnic Minorities, on April 5, the Youth Union organized a thematic activity "Following the course of history", helping students learn about heroic moments through stories, documentaries and open-ended questions. Meanwhile, the provincial Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities organized the program "Borders - Islands and National Unity" on March 15, combining propaganda, art performances and group presentations, contributing to raising students' awareness of the role of the younger generation in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
Student Ton Thi Kieu Trang, class 11A7, Provincial Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities, shared: “Before, I studied history just to do the test, but since participating in activities such as watching documentaries, listening to stories, and discussing in groups, I find this subject much more familiar and meaningful. I understand that being grateful to the previous generation is not only through words, but also through actions. I will try to study well so that in the future I can contribute to building my homeland.”
Not only stopping at school activities, many tours and study trips to red addresses are also regularly organized. For example: students of Thanh Son Primary and Secondary School (Huu Lung District) learned about the Chi Lang victory at the National Monuments Exhibition House, listened to explanations, and saw valuable historical artifacts with their own eyes. On March 29, students of Hung Vu Primary School (Bac Son District), Tu Doan Secondary School (Loc Binh District), Mo Da Primary and Secondary School (Chi Lang District) went to the Provincial Museum to participate in learning on local education topics. These activities, more than any lectures, help students deepen the value of independence and freedom; form awareness of preserving and promoting the cultural and historical heritage of their homeland.
Fire from battlefield memories
One of the highlights of the traditional education activities on this occasion was the joint program between Chi Lang High School and the Provincial Veterans Business Association organized on April 1, 2025. Nearly 200 grade 10 students listened to emotional stories from veterans - living witnesses of the resistance war against the US to save the country, watched a report on the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, participated in answering interactive questions about the great victory in the spring of 1975, and immersed themselves in heroic revolutionary melodies.
Mr. Hoang Manh Hung, Principal of Chi Lang High School shared: We do not only teach history as a subject, but always consider each activity and each exchange program as a valuable opportunity for students to deeply feel the value of peace and independence today. Inviting veterans - those who once fought with guns to talk to students has left a strong impression, contributing to forming noble ideals in them.
Not only students, but also cadres, teachers, and party members in the education sector actively participate in activities to return to the source. Typically, the Party Cell of Trang Dinh High School coordinated with the Party Cell of Bac Son High School to organize a thematic activity at the Bac Son Uprising relic site. The program not only helped review the glorious revolutionary struggle tradition of the homeland, but also provided an opportunity for units to exchange expertise and share experiences in training excellent students and applying artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching - a vivid demonstration of "learning history to innovate and develop".
Revolutionary tradition education is effectively implemented in the official curriculum through innovative and flexible teaching methods. At Cao Loc High School, history lessons are organized in the form of group discussions, project presentations, mind mapping, storytelling from the perspective of characters, etc., helping students not only grasp knowledge but also deeply understand the context and meaning of historical events, develop critical thinking and presentation skills. Meanwhile, at Le Quy Don Primary and Secondary School (Lang Son city), moral lessons and experiential activities are cleverly integrated with stories about young heroes, good people, and local good deeds, through storytelling, role-playing, drawing, and diary writing, etc., creating an emotional learning environment, nurturing love for the homeland, gratitude, and a sense of responsibility in each student.
According to statistics from the Department of Education and Training, since the beginning of the school year, the whole sector has organized more than 100 traditional educational activities, attracting nearly 5,000 students and teachers to participate. The activities span many forms: thematic activities, history competitions, exchanges with witnesses, visits to red addresses, integration into the teaching of History, Literature, Civic Education, etc.
Ms. Phan My Hanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, emphasized: “Educating revolutionary traditions is not only a task during a major holiday, but must be a continuous source throughout the process of educating students. In the coming time, the sector will continue to encourage schools to innovate methods, promote the role of teachers in leading and organizing creative activities, helping students proactively approach and understand historical values, thereby forming the right character and ideals for life.”
It can be affirmed that educating revolutionary traditions, especially on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, is not only a task but also a sacred mission of the Lang Son education sector. With all their enthusiasm, creativity and love for the profession, teachers are actively transmitting the revolutionary flame from the past to the future, so that generations of students today understand, appreciate and follow in the footsteps of their ancestors in building their homeland and country on the journey of integration and development.
