How many points did Vietnamese women's volleyball team get?
Yesterday, August 1, the Southeast Asian Women's Volleyball Championship (SEA V.League) took place in the first round in Nakhon Ratchasima (Thailand). This tournament has 4 participating teams: Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam. Mr. Le Tri Truong, General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV), said that this year's SEA V.League was recognized by FIVB, calculating the accumulated points for the teams in the world rankings. However, the points are only counted for the teams of Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines, not for the Thai team because this team has just participated in the highest level tournament in the FIVB system, the Nations League.

Before the first round of SEA V.League, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team was ranked 27th in the world while Thailand was ranked 20th. However, after defeating the Indonesian team with a score of 3-0 in yesterday's opening match, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team accumulated an additional 4.11 points. With a total of 145.32 points, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team surpassed Cuba, Mexico, Slovenia, and ranked 24th in the world. This is the highest ranking of Vietnamese women's volleyball ever and is also the first time the gap between the Vietnamese team and Thailand has been shortened to only 4 places.
The Thai team is currently ranked 20th in the world with 160.42 points. If they play well in the first and second stages of the SEA V.League this year, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and her teammates will have the opportunity to surpass the Thai team in the world rankings.
Thai women's volleyball has dominated Southeast Asia for a long time. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet said that at present, the Thai team's strength is still considered higher than that of Vietnam. However, with what the players have shown, including quality players such as Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen and Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, the Vietnamese team hopes to compete with the Thai team. That is also the reason why the coaching staff of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team boldly set the goal of surpassing Thailand in both the SEA V.League and the 33rd SEA Games so that the whole team can strive together.
In the match against Indonesia, the opponent had the return of the main scorer Megawati, however, the Vietnamese team with the balance in all positions did not have too much difficulty in overcoming. This was a match in which coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet did not send the number 1 scorer Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen onto the field, and at the same time experimented to diversify the playing style. Tran Thi Bich Thuy and Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh were two faces that were evaluated to play outstandingly. However, in the third game, the Vietnamese team had a moment of erratic performance, forcing coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet to remind and adjust. "In the match against Indonesia, the whole team was not in the best shape. We have to prepare better for the next match against the Philippines and especially against the direct competitor for the championship title, Thailand, in the last match," coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet shared.
Stage 1 and 2 of the SEA V.League are important preparations for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team to participate in the world championship for the first time (from August 22 to September 7 in Thailand). Mr. Le Tri Truong said that currently, the Kenyan team (ranked 22nd in the world) and Spain (ranked 33rd in the world) want to come to Vietnam to train and play friendly matches with the Vietnamese women's team before competing in the world championship.
