On May 28, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced the ranking of Asian clubs for the 2025-2026 season.
Accordingly, Vietnamese women's football ranked 6th in the continent with 68,522 points. Of these, 44,750 points (70%) were from club-level achievements and 23,772 points (30%) were from the Vietnamese women's national team.
This is an important ranking, used by the AFC to determine the seeds as well as the qualifying and group stage spots for the 2027-2028 Asian Women's Club Championship.
This achievement reflects the significant progress of Vietnamese women's football on the continental stage. This is especially true at the club level, with the Ho Chi Minh City women's club being a prime example after their impressive campaign in the AFC Women's Champions League 2025-2026.
Coach Doan Thi Kim Chi's team reached the quarterfinals but lost 0-3 to host team Naegohyang FC in Laos at the end of March.
Australia tops the rankings, thanks in large part to both their club and national women's teams. Melbourne City FC reached the semi-finals of the 2025-2026 AFC Women's Champions League, while the Australian women's national team finished as runners-up in the 2026 Asian Cup Women's Championship after losing 0-1 to Japan in the final.
Japan ranks second on the list thanks to the runner-up finish in the 2025-2026 AFC Women's Champions League by Tokyo Verdy Beleza FC, and the 2026 Asian Women's Cup victory by the Japanese women's national team.
South Korea finished third, thanks to Suwon FC, who eliminated defending champions Wuhan Jiangda (China) 4-0 in the quarterfinals and then lost 1-2 to Naegohyang FC (North Korea) in the semifinals of the 2025-2026 AFC Women's Champions League. The South Korean women's national team also reached the semifinals of the 2026 Asian Women's Cup.
Despite only ranking 5th, North Korea is the team that has made the most progress on the leaderboard. Naegohyang FC won the AFC Women's Champions League 2025-2026, and the North Korean women's national team reached the quarterfinals of the 2026 Asian Women's Cup.
Ranked fourth is China, with their club Wuhan Jiangda reaching the quarter-finals of the 2025-2026 AFC Women's Champions League and the Chinese women's national team reaching the semi-finals of the 2026 Asian Women's Cup.
The AFC points table is calculated based on the performance of the clubs in the 2025-2026 AFC Women's Champions League, along with the points of the national women's team according to the FIFA rankings published on April 21, 2026.
