According to CBS News, police spokeswoman Alenka Drenik Rangus said on May 16 that they had received a report of the theft on May 13 and were searching for the culprit. According to Slovenian media reports, the bronze statue was sawed off at the ankles and taken away.

The life-sized statue was erected on a tree stump in the middle of a field near the town of Sevnica, central Slovenia, in 2020 during US President Donald Trump's first term.

The work replaces a wooden statue depicting Melania wearing a light blue dress that was burned down earlier.

Mr Downey, the statue's creator, said he received news of the theft while preparing a new project in Germany.

“I feel a little sad that the statue is gone,” said Mr. Downey, expressing suspicion that the incident could be related to the new election of Mr. Donald Trump.

Authorities in Slovenia are investigating the incident.

It is known that in Sevnica, about 90 km east of the capital Ljubljana, Mrs. Melania 's name is given to many local products such as cakes and chocolate.
