Coach Kiatisak sets high goals for HAGL Club in V-League 2023 - 2024
V-League 2023 - 2024 will be organized according to a new time frame, starting from October 20, 2023 and ending in June 2024. Instead of playing all in one year, V-League will compete in a year-round format (from winter this year to summer next year). This is considered a necessary change for Vietnamese football, in order to catch up with the general trend of modern football. Compared to the 2023 season (split into groups competing for the championship and relegation after phase 1), V-League 2023 - 2024 will return to playing in a 2-round round-robin format (home - away). The relegation rate will also increase from 1 to 1.5. Specifically, after 24 rounds, the team at the bottom of the V-League table (ranked 14th) will be directly relegated, while the team at the bottom (ranked 13th) will have to play a play-off with the runner-up of the first division to compete for relegation.
In addition to changing the match schedule, V-League 2023 - 2024 is also the first season where video assistant referee (VAR) technology is widely applied. In V-League 2023, VAR was tested in 5 matches of the last 5 rounds. In the new season, VAR will appear in all rounds of V-League, with a maximum of 4 matches/round. The tournament organizers currently have 2 VAR vehicles and are waiting for FIFA to support 2 more vehicles to apply this modern technology in all V-League matches as soon as possible.
The prize money for the 2023-2024 V-League championship remains the same, with the winning team receiving 5 billion VND. Meanwhile, the prize money for the runner-up and third-place teams has changed compared to the 2023 season, increasing from 2.5 billion to 3 billion VND and 1.25 billion to 1.5 billion VND, respectively.
V-League 2023 - 2024 will open with the match between Hai Phong Club and HAGL at Lach Tray Stadium, at 6:00 p.m. on October 20.
