Enduring spread

Vu Van Thai, born in 1992, hails from Pham Xa village, formerly Ngo Quyen commune, now Hai Hung commune. After graduating, he joined the local Youth Union. The environment of community activities helped him become more dynamic and enthusiastic about community service.

In previous years, the voluntary blood donation movement in the locality faced many difficulties. Many people were hesitant to donate blood because they feared it would affect their health. Recognizing this, Mr. Thai volunteered to take the lead. He shared: “At first, many people were worried about the health risks of blood donation and were reluctant to participate. I thought I had to be the first to set an example, both to help patients and to spread the spirit of compassion.”

Driven by that simple thought, he regularly participated in voluntary blood donation programs. Not only did he donate blood himself, but he also persistently encouraged his relatives, friends, and neighbors to join. His enthusiasm and perseverance gradually brought about a noticeable change in people's awareness, and the blood donation movement in the locality spread strongly. What is particularly commendable is that his village is dozens of kilometers away from the city center, making travel inconvenient. Yet, whenever there is a blood donation program, many people are still willing to arrange their work schedules to participate. From a village with a quiet blood donation movement, it has now become a shining example of voluntary blood donation in the city.

Following the administrative unit reorganization and merger, Mr. Thai is currently the Deputy Head of the Economic and Budget Committee of the Hai Hung Commune People's Council. His professional work is quite busy, but he still maintains the habit of regularly donating blood and is ready to donate blood on an emergency basis when needed. Mr. Thai and his father both have blood type O – a blood type that is frequently in short supply in emergencies. Therefore, the two of them are always ready to go whenever they receive a call from the hospital.

Sow the seeds of compassion.

It's not just Mr. Thai; his entire family actively participates in voluntary blood donation. His family of four—his parents and his wife—are all enthusiastic volunteers in local blood donation drives. Mr. Thai registers to donate blood about four times a year. The other three family members also donate blood two to three times a year. For his family, blood donation is not just a responsibility but has become a familiar and meaningful activity in their lives.

Mr. Vu Van Huu, born in 1968, the father of Mr. Thai, said that after each blood donation, he feels his health remains stable and his spirits are higher. He shared: "I feel that as long as I can still donate blood, it means I'm still healthy and can still help others. Sometimes, when my son and daughter-in-law are busy, my wife and I arrange to donate blood ourselves. Helping someone overcome a critical situation makes me happy."

What makes Mr. Huu most proud is that this spirit of compassion is being maintained within his family. From parents to children, everyone wholeheartedly participates, viewing blood donation as a way of sharing with the community. "I hope that in the future, my grandchildren will also continue this spirit, knowing how to live for others," Mr. Huu expressed.

Mr. Thai's family has also become a role model, spreading the spirit of volunteerism in the local area. Their enthusiasm has instilled confidence and encouraged many others to boldly register and participate.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mung, Head of the Health Care Committee of the Hai Phong City Red Cross Society, assessed that Mr. Vu Van Thai's family is one of the exemplary families that have actively participated in the voluntary blood donation movement for many years. What is noteworthy about his family is not only the number of times they have donated blood but also their willingness to donate blood in emergency situations to save patients. At the same time, Mr. Thai's family has also actively contributed to promoting and spreading the blood donation movement widely at the grassroots level. The model of a blood-donating family will contribute to creating a sustainable and stable blood donation network, spreading humanitarian values throughout society.
