Earlier, at 12:55 PM on October 6th, as Dr. Le Hoang Khai, Head of the Pediatrics Department at Thanh Vu Medic General Hospital in Bac Lieu, was preparing to go to work, he heard a neighbor's cries for help about his wife giving birth at home.
Doctor Khai quickly grabbed a pair of medical gloves and ran to the home of the pregnant woman, NKM (43 years old). At the scene, the fetus was almost completely out but not breathing, and its mouth was full of amniotic fluid.
Doctor Khai quickly delivered the baby completely, cleared the airway, stimulated and warmed the baby. Soon after, the baby cried, and the whole family erupted in happiness and relief.
Immediately afterwards, the doctor contacted the emergency team of Thanh Vu Medic General Hospital in Bac Lieu to assist in cutting the umbilical cord at home (the baby weighed 3.1kg) and bring the mother and child back to the hospital for continued monitoring.
According to Dr. Khai, childbirth outside of medical facilities carries many dangerous risks for both mother and child, such as respiratory failure, postpartum hemorrhage, asphyxia after birth, and infection. Therefore, pregnant women need to have regular prenatal checkups, closely monitor their due date, and go to the hospital early when signs of labor appear so that they can receive timely support from the medical team.
