Amidst the bustling streets during rush hour, a café featuring vinyl records located in District 1 (Ho Chi Minh City) is crowded with customers, mostly young people.
A truly unique experience with vinyl records.
After immersing herself in the serene, classic atmosphere, Kieu Nga (21 years old, residing in Go Vap district) said it was a "one-of-a-kind" feeling. She shared that she is a fan of listening to music on vinyl records. Whenever she has free time, Nga will ride her motorbike to her favorite cafe to relax and listen to music.
"I choose to sit in vinyl record cafes because I love classical music , watching the record spin and humming along to the melodies. It's a very enjoyable experience, combining the enjoyment of drinks and music," Kiều Nga happily shared.
Nowadays, young people often choose to listen to ballads, pop, and other genres. Compared to modern music, vinyl records have more depth because they are a genre with a long history and a very unique sound. Listening to music on vinyl records not only helps you enjoy relaxing time but also provides a more complete musical experience.
Similarly, Thanh Thao (20 years old), also from Binh Thanh district, visited the vinyl record café with a friend. This was Thanh Thao's first time experiencing such a "brand new" feeling.
Being someone who enjoys quiet spaces, Thảo believes that vinyl record cafes are truly to her liking. "I feel peaceful, listening to melodies with deep emotional resonance; the more I listen, the more I enjoy them," Thảo confided.

Sharing the passion for music with the community.
Speaking about the idea of opening a cafe that plays vinyl records, Mr. Lam Hoang Dat (District 1) said that this model has been around for a long time. It's also his hobby of collecting, a tradition passed down from his relatives. Mr. Dat's family has a particular passion for this type of record.
"I opened the coffee shop because I've been working in the industry for quite a while, plus I enjoy listening to music, so I combined those two hobbies," Dat explained.
"Opening a vinyl record café is my way of sharing my musical taste, helping people learn more about this genre, and providing customers with the best relaxing experience," he added.
It can be said that music is a factor that helps young people feel more relaxed when hanging out at cafes. Especially at cafes that feature vinyl records, young people with similar passions can meet, socialize, and expand their network.
The origins of vinyl records
Vinyl records originated in the early days of the recording and broadcasting industry. This type of record was developed in the context of the advent of the phonograph and recording systems in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Thomas Edison, the American inventor, is known for successfully developing the first phonograph in 1877. By the 1890s, the German inventor Emile Berliner had developed the vinyl record as we know it today. He used polyvinyl chloride (PVC) for the disc and a spiral groove system for recording sound, instead of the circular grooves used previously.
