Music, family and the love of the audience gave the singer strength to overcome the serious illness.
In early 2025, Hong Nhung suddenly released a video sharing that she had breast cancer. Ironically, Hong Nhung received the bad news while preparing for the live show Singing about Hanoi.
November 30, 2024 Hong Nhung performed. November 1, 2024 was the day she was diagnosed with cancer. Many tickets had been sold but the doctor urged her to have an urgent surgery. She didn't know what to do, how would she explain to the audience if she had surgery, and if she didn't have surgery, would she still have the mood to "burn" on stage? After much thought, the diva finally decided to continue "fighting" to dedicate herself to the audience. She asked to postpone the surgery for a month to devote all her love to the audience through the live show Singing about Hanoi .
The singer said that when she was sick, music , family and the love of the audience gave her the energy and strength to get up and continue living. Just 10 days after the surgery, she practiced her voice. "At first, I had to cry when I sang, I couldn't hit high notes, but now I can sing normally again. I'm still practicing my voice every day," the singer shared.
"The key to overcoming the disease is accepting reality. When I publicly announced my illness, I received a lot of sincere encouragement from everyone. Thousands of messages of encouragement were sent to me, which was a priceless gift that the audience gave me and this is also the greatest comfort for every artist," singer Hong Nhung added.
When she learned she had cancer, Hong Nhung chose to face it gently. The first thing she thought of was her children, 13-year-old twins. As a single mother, she knew she couldn’t collapse. She consulted a psychologist to find the most appropriate way to talk to her children. Luckily, her children understood and accompanied their mother with emotional calmness.

Diligently spreading beautiful images of Vietnamese women
Born into an intellectual family from Hanoi, Hong Nhung's grandfather was painter Le Van Ngoan. Her maternal grandfather was linguist Doi Xuan Ninh. Her father was translator Le Van Vien. Since childhood, Hong Nhung had cherished the dream of becoming a teacher because she believed that it was the profession with "the most power". But then music chose her. At the age of 11, Hong Nhung recorded her first song. From then on, Hong Nhung came to music very naturally and continuously succeeded with musical products that bore her own mark.
Perhaps born for music, even in the most difficult times facing life and death, Hong Nhung still devoted her wholehearted love to music. Even on her hospital bed, she still wrote music.
Hong Nhung composed the song “Tu mo” inspired by “Bèo đit Mây trôi”. She created an electronic song with a contemporary feel but still imbued with Vietnamese culture. “A green willow branch in the sky” - the lyrics in this song are the image Hong Nhung compares to herself: fragile but steadfast, weak but resilient, living beautifully and inspiring others.
The MV is expected to be released in early July 2025. This is one of the projects that she has invested the most in so far, both in scale and passion. With this music product, she really wants to send the audience contemplative melodies, both soft and soulful, and filled with a strong spirit like the journey that she has been and is going through.
According to Hong Nhung, she is still diligently singing and practicing her voice every day. In addition, she also participates in two cancer patient support funds with the desire to use her voice and influence to call on the women's community to pay attention to their health, especially early screening to promptly detect the disease early. Hong Nhung said that she feels proud when seeing the image of Vietnamese women, although small but strong and resilient in the journey to fight the disease.
