“Congratulations to Vietnamese artists! We here love your ting ting tang dance. At first, I thought it was a Korean song. From today on, I have 2 favorite things from Vietnam: the food and this song.” This is the sharing from the Philippines by audience member Andy Malvar about the song See tinh by Hoang Thuy Linh.

The whole world sees love

In the past few days, the song See Tinh by Hoang Thuy Linh has caused a fever in many countries around the world, especially Korea, China, Thailand, Philippines, even from the US, Brazil, Bangladesh, Pakistan...

Recently, in the match of V-League All-Star 2022-2023, after winning 1 point, Korean female athlete Lee Da Huyn danced to the song See Tinh and the video recording this scene was widely shared on social networks. Some K-pop stars (Korea) such as ShinDong (member of Super Junior), Seunghoon (Winner), Hoony (member of The Boyz)... have danced to the music of this song.

From Thailand, two actors Santa Pongsapak Oudompoch and Earth Katsamonnat (film My Only 12%) also had a very attractive performance following the See Tinh trend. They also danced to this song at a fan meeting in Vietnam. The song continuously appeared and "stormed" the streets and schools in Thailand with lively and cute performances.

At the Miss Charm - Miss International Beauty Pageant 2023 currently being held in Vietnam, international contestants also performed See Tinh very interestingly. See Tinh also "caused a storm" in Malaysia with an extremely unique version when used to perform lion dance. Famous Philippine soccer player Eric Tai also continuously covered the See Tinh choreography at many major tournaments.

See Tinh was released at the end of February 2022, is a song in Hoang Thuy Linh's album Link. The song combines folk music with electronic music. Currently, the MV still receives thousands of likes and comments from a large number of Vietnamese and international audiences. Many foreign audiences expressed their special love for the song's melody, continuously learning Hoang Thuy Linh's choreography through video clips posted on social platforms.

Owen Orange, a fan from the Philippines, praised: “The MV is very beautiful and interesting. I really like the graphics and colorful background. Congratulations to the Vietnamese singer and production team. It's my first time listening to the original song and I can't get enough of it.”

Trying to create a trend

Before See Tinh, Vietnamese music also had a number of viral songs in some countries such as: Ghen Co Vy ; Hai phut hon (rapper Phao); Trong com; De den de di (Quang Hung MasterD); Cu chinh thoi (version by DJ TuSo & Lea); Co chang trai viet len cay (Phan Manh Quynh); Duoi que vui hon (composed by Khanh Don, performed by Luong Khanh Vy); Tinh ban dieu ky (Amee, Lang LD, Ricky Star)...

Some other Vietnamese songs that have appeared in many foreign markets include The magic bomb (Hoang Read, Tai Musik); Sao anh chua ve nha (Amee, Ricky Star); Ke thiep gat ba gia (Hoang Thuy Linh); Ngay tho, Da Vu, Ben tren thang lau (Tang Duy Tan)...

There is a boy who wrote on a tree, which was danced by Ly Nhuoc Dong and Tran Hao Dan to the soundtrack of the movie Mat Biec, creating a fever on social networks. With Quang Hung, his song Easy to Come, Easy to Go was very successful in creating a fever on social networks in China and Thailand, and was even translated into Chinese , Doi Mat Em Nhu Anh Sao for Cuc Tinh Y and Hau Minh Hao to perform on Hunan TV.

There was a time when the folk song Trong Com “took over” Chinese social media. This was the first time a Northern folk song was remixed and became a trend on social media in China.

Audience member Do Thi Thuy Hang (HCMC) said that the happy thing was that she happened to see Thai people sitting and watching Vietnamese songs on the street in Thailand. “I didn’t expect Vietnamese MVs to get so much attention! Vietnamese music is reaching the world,” said Ms. Thuy Hang.

Audience member Le Thi Truc Quynh (Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City) shared: “From the song Ghen Co Vy 2 years ago, which appeared on an American TV show and was praised by Billboard America or SBS Korea, to See Tinh and a series of other songs, it can be seen that Vietnamese artists are capable of creating world music trends. I think, with creative and trendy MV making, vibrant, attractive, youthful melodies... they will be able to spread widely and win the love of the audience.”

Unique, memorable melodies; unique titles; modern music videos; simple, eye-catching choreography… are the attractions of Vietnamese songs, helping them become trends. The fact that the melodies from these songs are popular in many countries also contributes to proving Vietnam’s ability to “export music” to the world.

However, Vietnamese music often appears in the world music market in the form of a trend on social networks, a dance... Therefore, to be evaluated and enjoyed as an independent music product is a long journey, requiring more effort from young artists.
