Spring is also the time when many common diseases in children break out. Because this is the time when viruses are most active.

Dr. Du Minh Tri, Head of the Examination Department, City Children's Hospital (HCMC) said that the Lunar New Year is approaching, this is the time when parents want their children to have a happy and healthy holiday. However, spring is also the time when many common diseases in children break out. The cause is due to cold weather, high humidity, lots of pollen in the air... especially at this time when viruses are active.

Parents need to pay attention to preventing common diseases to protect their children's health.

Seasonal flu: Children with the flu often have symptoms of cough, runny nose, sneezing, mild fever and can recover after 5-7 days if well cared for. However, in some cases, the disease can progress to more complicated stages, causing laryngotracheobronchitis, bronchitis or even pneumonia. To prevent the disease, parents should vaccinate their children against seasonal flu early, with a booster dose once a year.

Rash fever caused by viruses such as rubella and parvovirus often appears with a high fever that lasts for the first 3 days. After that, the child will have red rashes on the body. The disease can cause fatigue and dehydration if not properly cared for. Wear a mask for your child, limit contact with sick people, supplement vitamin C and vaccinate your child against measles-mumps-rubella from 12 months of age to prevent the disease in your child.

Spring is also the time of outbreak of many common diseases in children.

Rotavirus causes severe vomiting and diarrhea, which can lead to severe dehydration. It is a highly contagious virus, especially in crowded environments. Rotavirus vaccine should be given to children at 6-8 weeks of age to reduce the risk of infection.

Chickenpox (Varicella): The disease spreads quickly, especially in crowded communities. Symptoms of the disease often appear as blisters all over the body, sometimes causing secondary infections or serious complications such as encephalitis. To prevent the disease early, parents should take their children to get vaccinated from 12 months of age at medical facilities.

Allergic rhinitis and asthma: Pollen and high humidity in spring often make children susceptible to respiratory allergies. Allergic rhinitis often causes itchy nose, sneezing, runny nose; while asthma has symptoms of wheezing, difficulty breathing. Use preventive medicine prescribed by your doctor 2 weeks before the peak of the disease.

Tet and spring are the ideal times for families to reunite and enjoy. However, parents need to pay attention to preventing common diseases to protect their children's health, helping them have a complete and safe Tet holiday.
