At the funeral, in a solemn atmosphere, the provincial leaders respectfully laid wreaths, offered incense and observed a minute of silence to express their infinite gratitude for the great contributions of General Vo Nguyen Giap, an excellent and close student of President Ho Chi Minh, the eldest brother of the Vietnam People's Army, and an outstanding son of his homeland Quang Binh .
When mentioning the Vietnam People's Army, people cannot help but remember General Vo Nguyen Giap and it is no coincidence that all Vietnamese people call him the eldest brother of the heroic Vietnam People's Army. Born as a teacher, General Vo Nguyen Giap became a talented military leader, a high-level thinker of the nation's art of People's War with the character and virtue of a sage deeply engraved in the hearts of every Vietnamese person as well as in the hearts of many leaders and people of countries around the world .
President Ho Chi Minh assigned him the responsibility of establishing the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army - the predecessor of the Vietnam People's Army. From here, with his military talent, General Vo Nguyen Giap made an important contribution to every victory of the Vietnamese army and people. On December 22, 1944, the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army was officially established - General Vo Nguyen Giap was the direct commander of this army. And when he was just 37 years old, Vo Nguyen Giap was awarded the first General rank of our Army by Ho Chi Minh.
