Recently, three big state-owned banks, BIDV , Vietcombank, and VietinBank, have announced the closing date for the shareholder list to pay cash dividends. Specifically, Vietcombank plans to close the shareholder list on October 6, with expected payment on October 24; BIDV plans to close the list on October 15, with expected payment on November 14; VietinBank plans to close the list on October 15, with expected payment on November 17.

All three banks will pay cash dividends at a rate of 4.5%. Accordingly, Vietcombank plans to spend about VND3,760 billion to pay cash dividends to shareholders. This figure is more than VND3,159 billion at BIDV and more than VND2,400 billion at VietinBank. This is the first time these banks have paid cash dividends again after a 4-year suspension.

Techcombank also closed the shareholder list on October 1 to pay cash dividends at a rate of 10%, expected to be paid on October 22, 2025. The total amount expected to be spent is about VND 7,086 billion.

In addition to the above 4 banks, since the beginning of the year, 8 banks have completed paying cash dividends to shareholders, including LPBank, VIB, VPBank, TPBank, MB, OCB, ACB, SHB. The total amount that the 12 banks "spent" to pay cash dividends to shareholders is 42,669 billion VND.

LPBank is currently the bank with the most generous cash payout to shareholders.

Among the banks that have paid and are about to pay cash dividends to shareholders, LPBank is the top spender. Accordingly, this year, LPBank has completed paying cash dividends to shareholders at a rate of up to 25%, the total amount of cash paid to shareholders is 7,468 billion VND. In second place is Techcombank with a spending of 7,086 billion VND.

The third position in cash dividend this year is still open because HDBank has not yet finalized its dividend plan. Previously, HDBank's Board of Directors said it planned to submit to shareholders a maximum cash dividend of 15%. If this plan is submitted to shareholders and approved, HDBank will likely be in the top 3 banks with the highest cash dividend this year.

Banks that have paid cash dividends since the beginning of the year are: ACB paid 4,467 billion VND, at a rate of 10%; VPBank paid 3,967 billion VND in cash dividends, at a rate of 5%; VIB paid 2,085 billion VND in cash dividends, at a rate of 7%; TPBank paid 2,642 billion VND, at a rate of 10%; MB paid 1,830 billion VND, at a rate of 3%; SHB paid 2,033 billion VND, at a rate of 5%; OCB paid 1,726 billion VND, at a rate of 7%.

Banks returning to cash dividends shows that the health of the system has improved significantly. Previously, since 2020, the State Bank has limited cash distributions so that banks can focus on increasing capital, handling bad debts and creating room for interest rate reduction, leading to most of them only distributing shares.

However, by 2023, the State Bank has relaxed dividend regulations for healthy banks, balancing the interests between small investors and major shareholders, especially bank owners.
