On January 1, 2024, AVP reported that at approximately 6 PM on December 30, a Su-35S fighter jet of the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out an airstrike on the Shkolny airfield in Odessa using X-59 Gadfly missiles. The "Southern" operational command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed the attack. The command stated that an industrial production facility was targeted but did not disclose further details.

The Telegram channel “Informant” analyzed the information and found that numerous activities took place at Shkolny Airport since the autumn of 2023. It is believed that bunkers were erected in the airport area to store air defense systems. Satellite imagery also showed the presence of two unidentified objects at the bunker.

Experts also noticed similarities between the massive structures at Shkolny airport and the deployment area of the Patriot air defense system at Zhulyany airport near Kyiv. Therefore, experts believe that the Patriot air defense system may have been deployed in Odessa.

AVP also reported on another Russian attack targeting a Ukrainian military airfield. On the evening of January 1, 2024, Russian Geranium drones carried out attacks on various targets in Ukraine. One of the main targets was Starokonstantinov airfield in the Khmelnitsky region.

In addition to Starokonstantinov, explosions were also reported in the Kyiv region.

Air raid sirens have sounded across Ukraine, signaling an escalating military situation. In addition to attacks in the Kyiv region, attacks on several Ukrainian Armed Forces positions in the Marinka region, including Georgievka, Maksimilyanovka, and Kurakhovo, have also been reported. This indicates increased military activity in the area.

On the evening of January 1, 2024, TASS also reported that Russian air defense systems shot down numerous pieces of equipment belonging to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

According to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense , Russian air defense systems shot down a Ukrainian Su-27 on December 31, 2023. In addition, Russia intercepted 16 HIMARS missiles and 6 Uragan missiles, and destroyed 46 Ukrainian drones.
