Among the universities supporting the scholarship this year, many have been with the School Support program since its inception.
Don't let new students not be able to study because of poverty.
Immediately after the scholarship program "Tiep suc den truong" was announced on the morning of August 8, Dr. Phan Hong Hai - principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry - proactively contacted Tuoi Tre newspaper to support the school's new students.
This is not the first time Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry has participated in the program. In previous years, the school supported scholarships through Tuoi Tre newspaper to help university-admitted candidates with difficult circumstances.
“Every year I closely follow the articles about poor students passing university entrance exams in Tuoi Tre newspaper. I am very touched and want to contribute a little to support poor students.
This year's scholarship season, we decided to increase to 20 scholarships with a total amount of 300 million VND to support the school's new students in difficult circumstances," Mr. Hai shared.
According to Mr. Hai, the school also has many scholarships and support programs for students in difficulty. Last school year, the school spent nearly 60 billion VND to provide scholarships and rewards to students with good academic performance or students with unexpected difficulties so that their studies would not be interrupted.
In addition, the school also has many other support programs: free accommodation in dormitories, part-time job referrals to help students cover tuition fees.
“In the upcoming 2024-2025 school year, the school plans to continue to spend about 70 billion VND on scholarships for students. I absolutely guarantee that no candidate will pass the entrance exam but cannot study because of poverty,” Mr. Hai affirmed.
Humanitarian Scholarship
Many other universities have also informed Tuoi Tre about their support for the 2024 School Transfer Scholarship program.
Sharing about the decision to support 10 scholarships (total amount of 150 million VND), Dr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang - Vice Principal of the University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) - said: "Personally, I and the school community highly appreciate the beautiful humanity of the program "Tiep suc den truong".
In particular, the selection of scholarship recipients was done very carefully by Tuoi Tre newspaper, and the school completely trusted them, so they contributed funds to help the school's new students. I think this scholarship contributes to bringing good values to life."
Master Cu Xuan Tien - Head of Admissions and Student Affairs Department of the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University) - said that in the context of university autonomy, all schools have increased tuition fees according to Government regulations. Therefore, the issue of tuition fees is a concern for many new students right from the moment they enter university.
“The Tuoi Tre Newspaper’s Support to School Program has been trying to ensure that no student who passes the university entrance exam has to drop out of school due to difficult circumstances. This is a humane and profound goal. That is also the reason why the school came and accompanied this program by supporting 10 scholarships for new students in difficult circumstances of the school,” said Mr. Tien.
MSc. Le Van Hien - Head of the Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Law - also said that the fact that universities are implementing the roadmap to increase tuition fees according to the Government 's regulations will partly put more pressure on students from difficult circumstances and will affect their studies.
“In reality, there are new students entering the university who immediately face the worry of not being able to pay their first semester tuition, and many drop out of school due to financial difficulties.
We believe that the Tiep Suc Den Truong scholarship is meaningful in terms of timing and great encouragement for young people. Therefore, the school also contributes to support this program," Mr. Hien shared.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Law has developed a plan to develop the staff and quality of lecturers, attract talents, improve facilities and care for students by setting aside tuition revenue to establish scholarship funds and support students (up to nearly 28 billion VND/year); increase the fund for developing scientific and technological activities of lecturers and students to 20 billion VND/year.
In addition, the school provides financial compensation to implement the tuition exemption policy for policy beneficiaries and students with difficult circumstances; maintains flexibility in tuition payment period (extends payment period), and extends tuition payment period for students with difficulties.
The school also calls for resources from businesses and alumni to supplement the student support fund to support disadvantaged students (formed from savings interest and funding sources).
Creating opportunities to achieve sustainable development goals
According to Associate Professor Dr. Bui Quang Hung - Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, aiming at three sustainable development goals: creating opportunities for learners with different circumstances, building equitable access to education and connecting the community for education, the school always focuses on building a comprehensive scholarship policy.
“Not only for students of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, this policy aims to spread widely and accompany young people from all regions who have a thirst for knowledge. The Tuoi Tre Newspaper’s Support to School scholarship program has created opportunities for us to realize these practical goals,” Mr. Hung shared.
