If you don't have a knife or don't want to use a knife, you can apply this quick and convenient way to peel mangosteen that anyone can do.

Peel from the stem

First, use two fingers to hold the stem and press lightly, then pull the stem out of the mangosteen body.

Next, gently squeeze the mangosteen body to split it in half. Be careful to squeeze gently so the mangosteen does not flatten.

Finally, use your hands to separate the mangosteen peel from the pulp and you can enjoy it.

Peel from the bottom

With this method, you need to flip the mangosteen so that the base with the flower shape is facing up, then use your finger to gently press the flower part down. Note that do not use too much force to break the inner flesh of the mangosteen.

Use your hands to gently squeeze the fruit to split it in half and you're done without too much effort.

How to choose delicious mangosteen

Choose fruits with dark brown color, nice skin, feel good elasticity around the skin, not crushed if you want to eat right away. In case you buy a lot, you should choose green fruit but have red spots on the skin. Green fruit with red spots is ripe but not ripe enough, so you can buy it and eat it after 2 to 3 days. Many people say that mangosteen with yellow latex on the outside is delicious fruit, but according to the garden owner, it is just latex on the fruit and not a delicious fruit at all.

When choosing mangosteen, choose a medium-sized round fruit, not too big. Do not choose a fruit that is too big because it has a thick skin and little flesh. Choose a round fruit, about the size of a golf ball. The bottom of the fruit has a flower shape, the number of petals is the number of segments.

To check the ripeness of mangosteen, we use our hand to press on the skin of the fruit to see if it is ripe or not. The skin of mangosteen is very thick, so pressing hard will not affect the segments inside. You press evenly around the fruit and if the fruit is easy to press, soft and evenly, then it is ripe and not spoiled. If you press on it and it is hard, it means that the fruit is not ripe. Or if you see some soft and some hard, so hard that you cannot press, it is very likely that that area has been bitten by an insect.

You should not buy mangosteen in the rainy season because the mangosteen is soaked with water. The segments become pale and the skin is prone to leaking sap that seeps into the segments and is not tasty.
