In the world of video recording technology, action cameras have become indispensable tools for creating content, capturing journeys, and recording vivid moments.
In Vietnam, the three most prominent brands currently are GoPro, DJI, and Insta360. Each brand offers its own philosophy, catering to different user groups.

GoPro: An icon of durability, but with a hefty price tag.
GoPro is not just a brand, it's an icon of action cameras. From extreme sports footage to travel vlogs, GoPro has become a companion for millions of users worldwide.
The Hero 13 Black inherits that legacy with notable improvements. In terms of hardware, it still uses a 1/1.9” sensor but with optimized algorithms, allowing for 5.3K video recording with accurate detail and color. HyperSmooth 6.0 image stabilization technology continues to be a highlight, ensuring smooth footage even in challenging conditions.

Independent imaging expert Chris Rogers commented: "GoPro is heading in a more stable direction rather than a groundbreaking one. They focus on user experience and the accessory ecosystem, rather than chasing technical specifications." This is evident in their compatibility with Lens Mods, Media Mods, and Enduro batteries, allowing users to shoot longer and with greater flexibility.
For those already invested in the GoPro ecosystem, the Hero 13 Black is a logical upgrade. However, the high price and lack of groundbreaking sensor technology may be a drawback for new users.
DJI: Notable for its quality… but its “poor” accessory ecosystem.
DJI is renowned for its professional drone lines, and has recently ventured into the action camera market with the Osmo Action series. The latest version, the Osmo Action 5 Pro, shows that DJI is a formidable competitor.
The most outstanding feature of the Action 5 Pro is its ability to shoot 4K at 120fps, with a dynamic range of up to 13.5 stops. The dual OLED screens make it easy for users to shoot vlogs or selfies, while its 20m water resistance without a protective case is a major plus.

A visual effects expert from the YouTube channel Potato Jet commented: "DJI is bringing its drone hardware philosophy to action cameras. They understand how to optimize for image stabilization, color accuracy, and durability – things that outdoor filmmakers desperately need."
Another noteworthy point is the battery life. With an 1800mAh battery, the Action 5 Pro can shoot continuously for over 4 hours, far surpassing its competitors. The 15-minute fast charging provides 2 hours of use, which is also very convenient. However, DJI has yet to build a rich accessory ecosystem like GoPro.
The unfortunate downside of the "rebel" Insta360
If GoPro is the icon of tradition, DJI is the hardware innovator, then Insta360 is the "rebel" in the action camera game.
This company is constantly introducing new ideas such as 360-degree cameras, AI auto-correction, and flip-out touchscreens. The latest version, the Ace Pro 2, is clear evidence of that spirit.

With the ability to shoot 8K at 30fps and 4K at 120fps, the Ace Pro 2 excels in resolution. The 1/1.3” (micro four-thirds) 50MP sensor allows for capturing sharp detail, especially in low-light conditions. The 2.5” flip-out touchscreen makes it easy for users to control the frame when shooting vlogs or selfies.
Content creator Nguyen Ngoc Duy Luan commented: "Insta360 doesn't just sell cameras, they sell an experience. From filming and editing to sharing, everything is intelligently integrated and easy to use."
The Ace Pro 2's biggest strength is its AI-powered post-production capabilities. Users can select automatic shooting effects, adjust color, cut and paste, and publish with just a few taps, which is especially useful for those creating content for social media platforms.
However, shooting in 8K requires a high-speed memory card, and the camera has no internal memory, forcing users to invest in additional storage accessories.
The intended use determines the product choice.
According to surveys in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, 60% of GoPro users said they chose the brand because of its reliability and wide range of accessories. Vlogger Tai Day, who has used a GoPro Hero Black 7 for 7 years, shared: "It's impossible not to trust such a reliable equipment brand."
Meanwhile, 70% of DJI users are satisfied with battery life and image quality. Mr. Tran Tien, manager of Jinmedia Group, commented: "DJI has an excellent stabilization system, realistic colors, and high durability, meeting the demands of high-frequency work in harsh environments."
Insta360 received an 80% positive rating for its AI-powered editing capabilities. Water puppet artist Tran Mai Hong Trinh shared: "It's very convenient; I can edit and upload my footage immediately after filming. The camera captures light better and is waterproof, making it very versatile."
According to consultant Tran Hoai Linh of CellphoneS: "Action cameras are inherently very durable devices. Users can use them for many years. GoPro always retains many loyal customers, DJI is gradually attracting professional users due to its stable quality, while young content creators often turn to Insta360."
The action camera race is no longer a battle of technical specifications, but a battle of user experience, ecosystem, and suitability for different user groups.
Among them, GoPro is considered by tech experts to be the ideal choice for long-term users who need reliability and a wide range of accessories. DJI excels in hardware, battery life, and durability, making it suitable for vloggers, travelers, and sports enthusiasts. Insta360 is the choice for modern content creators who need high-quality images and intelligent post-production capabilities.
Ultimately, understanding your individual needs—from filming style and location to sharing methods—is the deciding factor in choosing one of these three major providers.
