Representatives of Cambodia and Thailand expressed their willingness to cease fire after airstrikes and artillery exchanges between the two countries caused casualties for two consecutive days.
Cambodia wants to reach an “immediate ceasefire” with Thailand, Cambodia’s ambassador to the United Nations Chhea Keo said on July 25, after two days of deadly airstrikes and artillery fire between the two countries. Thailand has also signaled its readiness for negotiations.

Originating from a long-standing border dispute, tensions between the two countries have erupted into fierce clashes involving fighter jets, artillery, tanks and infantry since July 24, forcing the United Nations Security Council to hold an emergency meeting on the crisis on July 25.
Speaking after a closed-door meeting of the Security Council attended by representatives of Cambodia and Thailand, Mr. Chhea Keo affirmed that Cambodia proposed an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and called for a peaceful settlement of the dispute.
For his part, speaking before this closed-door meeting, Thai Foreign Ministry spokesman Nikorndej Balankura said that by the afternoon of July 25 (local time), the situation had begun to cool down, and declared that Thailand was ready to negotiate if Cambodia wanted to resolve this issue through bilateral diplomatic channels or through an intermediary, Malaysia.
According to the Thai Ministry of Public Health, more than 138,000 people have been evacuated from border areas. The conflict has left 15 Thais dead, including 14 civilians and one soldier, and 46 others injured.
Meanwhile, Cambodia confirmed that at least one civilian was killed and five others were injured. The Cambodian government also evacuated 3,436 households to safety.
