Gratitude: Actions from the heart

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Memories of war may fade away, but gratitude lasts forever. In Thanh Hoa, a land rich in revolutionary tradition, the act of showing gratitude to those who have contributed to the country is not only carried out by policy, but also nurtured from the heart of the community. From gifts, incense sticks, to daily care and sharing, all contribute to lighting up the morality of "remembering the source of drinking water" in today's life.

Acts of gratitude and reciprocity: Actions from the heart.

The Provincial Youth Union presented gifts to Mr. Le Xuan Tinh, a beneficiary of government social welfare policies, in Trung Thanh village, Luong Son commune.

Sharing starts with small acts of kindness – spreading great compassion.

For generations , Thanh Hoa province has always been a companion to the nation on its journey of nation-building and national defense. It has served as a strong rear base, a arduous frontline, and the birthplace of hundreds of thousands of outstanding individuals who willingly sacrificed their youth, left their homes, and dedicated themselves to the battlefield to help regain independence and freedom for the Fatherland.

To date, Thanh Hoa province has nearly 350,000 people who have rendered meritorious services to the revolution. In particular, among the 4,632 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, 44 still-living mothers have been honored for their great sacrifices. In gratitude to those who contributed to making history, Thanh Hoa province not only fully implements the policies of the Party and State, but also continuously spreads the "Gratitude and Repayment" movement through concrete, practical, and humane actions. Currently, the entire province has more than 64,000 people receiving monthly preferential allowances with a total annual budget of 1,240 billion VND. 100% of the living Vietnamese Heroic Mothers are being cared for for life by agencies, organizations, and businesses.

From holiday gifts to newly built, cozy homes, from savings accounts filled with gratitude to heartfelt visits, all contribute to alleviating hardships and warming the spirits of those who have dedicated and sacrificed for the nation. The "Gratitude and Repayment" movement is no longer just a policy task, but has become an act of the heart, a moral principle of "drinking water, remembering the source" deeply ingrained in the consciousness of generations.

A highlight in recent gratitude-related efforts is the implementation of Directive No. 22-CT/TW of the Politburo on strengthening leadership over the work related to people with meritorious services. To date, Thanh Hoa province has comprehensively implemented a program to support the construction and repair of houses for poor households, policy beneficiary families, and people with difficult circumstances. As of May 20, 2025, 13,093 houses have been started construction and repair, of which 5,898 have been completed and handed over to the households. However, the journey of showing gratitude still faces challenges; out of a total of over 15,800 households in need of housing, more than 9,900 households still require resources to continue the project. Although the province has mobilized nearly 620 billion VND, approximately 100 billion VND is still needed to achieve the goal.

Thanh Hoa province is highly determined to complete the entire housing support program for war veterans and impoverished households before August 30, 2025. This is not only a timeframe but also a heartfelt promise to those who suffered greatly during the war, so that they can have a warm and comfortable home.

Showing gratitude through actions - a responsibility for everyone.

The "Gratitude and Repayment" movement in our province is not only expressed through preferential policies, financial figures, or administrative regulations. What makes this movement special is that it spreads from the heart, where every act of gratitude carries with it respect, sharing, and sincere appreciation.

Acts of gratitude and reciprocity: Actions from the heart.

The professional department of the Provincial Police, in coordination with the police of wards and communes and GeneStory Company - the unit directly conducting the testing - is implementing a program to collect DNA samples for relatives of martyrs whose identities have not yet been confirmed.

One of the most humane activities is the collection of biological samples for DNA testing to identify fallen soldiers whose identities are unknown. Following directives from the Ministry of Public Security and the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province, the Provincial Police proactively developed a plan and assigned officers to directly go to localities to collect biological samples from the relatives of fallen soldiers.

From urban areas to remote villages like Quan Hoa, Ba Thuoc, Muong Lat, and Nhu Xuan, police officers traveled long distances to visit each household, providing thorough advice and explanations on the sample collection process, and persuading and encouraging the relatives of fallen soldiers to participate. With perseverance, dedication, and understanding, they helped overcome the initial psychological barriers of many families, especially the elderly and infirm. Many officers took advantage of their afternoons after work, and some even dedicated their entire weekend to arrive on time for sample collection.

Alongside the police force, youth union members throughout the province are quietly continuing the journey of gratitude through simple, down-to-earth actions. For example, the Youth Union of Nam Sam Son ward, in coordination with the hospital, organized health check-ups, consultations, free medicine distribution, and gift-giving for Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, and former youth volunteers in difficult circumstances. In addition, youth teams launched campaigns to clean up the environment at memorial sites and martyrs' cemeteries in the area, contributing to maintaining the solemnity and cleanliness of these "red addresses"...

The Provincial Fatherland Front Committee continues to be a pillar connecting acts of kindness and compassion by presiding over the launch of the "Gratitude and Repayment" Fund, calling for social resources to build and repair houses of gratitude, give gifts, and present savings accounts to meritorious individuals in difficult circumstances.

Local businesses have also made significant contributions to the commemoration, with many units providing lifelong care for Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, supporting house construction, giving gifts during holidays, or prioritizing the employment of children of wounded soldiers and martyrs... Particularly, on July 27th this year, Thanh Hoa province organized more than 20 delegations to offer incense and pay respects at martyrs' cemeteries in localities inside and outside the province... Besides offering incense in remembrance, the delegations also directly visited and presented gifts to wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, and families of martyrs.

Thanh Hoa province has been effectively implementing policies to support those who have rendered meritorious services to the nation through concrete and profound actions. The "Gratitude and Repayment" movement continues to spread, becoming a beautiful aspect of spiritual life and contributing to the cultivation of morality and patriotic traditions among the younger generation.
