The remains of martyr Bui Quang Can in Phung Nguyen commune were buried in his hometown cemetery, fulfilling the wishes of his relatives and family.
More than a year has passed since the Party Committee, People's Committee of Phung Nguyen commune and his family held a ceremony to receive, pay their respects and bury the remains of martyr Bui Quang Can at his hometown cemetery after more than 56 years of heroic sacrifice for the independence and freedom of the nation. The remains of martyr Bui Quang Can were brought from the Quang Tri province martyrs' cemetery back to his hometown cemetery for burial by the North-South railway. That special train not only brought back a sacred part of the country, but also carried the long-standing wish of his family and clan - to welcome their heroic son back to his homeland.
Martyr Bui Quang Can was born in 1944 in a family of 6 siblings in the old Son Duong commune (now Phung Nguyen commune), including 4 brothers who all participated in the resistance war against the US to save the country. In 1966, he volunteered to join the army and was assigned to Battalion 9 KN, with the rank of Corporal, position of Soldier. During the fierce war, he and his comrades fought steadfastly to create the historic victory of Tet Mau Than 1968 and heroically sacrificed at the Southern Front (Phu Cat district, Binh Dinh province, now Gia Lai province) on March 7, 1968. After his death, the martyr was gathered at the Martyrs' Cemetery of Cat Son commune, Phu Cat district, Binh Dinh province. In recognition of his contributions to the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, martyr Bui Quang Can was awarded by the State and the army the Third Class Resistance War Medal against the US to save the country, the Glorious Soldier Medal and many other noble awards.
Colonel Pham Quyet Chien - Chairman of the Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs (HTGĐLS) of the province said: In order to meet the desire of the family of martyr Bui Quang Can to bring the remains of the martyr back to his homeland, the Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs of the province has coordinated with departments, branches, organizations, and local authorities to actively advise and guide the family to complete the procedures to support the movement of the remains of the martyr back to his homeland by free rail. This is the first case of the remains of a martyr in the province being supported to move back to his homeland according to the policy of the Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs of Vietnam. The movement of the remains of martyrs is an important task, requiring the coordination of many parties, from verifying the identity, completing the documents, to transporting and organizing the memorial service and burial. Therefore, we always try our best to complete the procedures promptly and thoughtfully, in order to meet the wishes of relatives and families of martyrs so that they can return to the arms of their homeland.
Transporting martyrs' remains by train instead of car is the best way to ensure the long journey to bring martyrs' remains safely and thoughtfully, while reducing the burden on martyrs' relatives. This program has received support and consensus from martyrs' families and the community, demonstrating the spirit of "Repaying gratitude" and the nation's morality of "When drinking water, remember its source". According to information from the Vietnam Association of Martyrs and Martyrs, from 2024 to mid-November 2025, the program has supported the transport of nearly 70 martyrs' remains from southern cemeteries to the central and northern provinces, hundreds of martyrs' relatives were exempted from train tickets, including Phu Tho province. The movement of martyrs' remains was carried out thoughtfully and safely.
To implement the program, the Vietnam Association of Martyrs and Martyrs has closely coordinated with agencies, departments, branches and railway enterprises, issued specific directives and instructions, helping the implementation to be smooth and achieve good results. The Association's office in the South also established a team to transport martyrs' remains to support the martyrs' relatives in completing procedures, collecting remains and moving them from the cemetery to the train station. Choosing the railway to transport martyrs' remains not only ensures safety and saves costs, but also demonstrates thoughtfulness and solemnity in the process of bringing them back to their homeland.
Colonel Pham Quyet Chien - Chairman of the Provincial Association of Family and War Veterans added: We are continuing to coordinate with the Association of Family and War Veterans of Dong Nai province to complete the procedures to support the movement of the remains of martyr Nguyen Tien Man in Yen Duong commune, now Dong Luong commune, who is resting at the Dong Nai province martyrs cemetery, to be buried in his hometown cemetery by free rail. Not only does it have material significance, through the program, it is also a bond connecting generations, from those who have gone through the war to today's youth.
Despite many difficulties, with the participation of all levels, sectors and the whole society, the gratitude trains continue to roll, carrying the heroic sons back to the Motherland as on the day they left. Each incense stick lit on their graves is a promise from today's generation that the Fatherland and the People will never forget the merits of those who fell for the independence, freedom and happiness of the People.
