Vietnam’s pepper is poised to set a new record in exports thanks to strong price increases. This commodity is considered Vietnam’s “black gold”. Prices are rising amid a global supply shortage and high international demand.
Vietnam used to be the world’s leading pepper exporter. However, pepper prices have fallen so low that many farmers have switched to growing coffee and durian. This change is aimed at finding a better source of income.
As farmers switched crops, Vietnam’s pepper supply decreased. The decline in domestic supply contributed to pushing the price of this commodity on the international market even higher, creating a value advantage for the product.
Experts predict that the price increase cycle could last more than 10 years. Specifically, the price of pepper in the domestic market next year could reach 200,000 VND/kg. This is a positive signal, opening a period of prosperity for the pepper industry.

Vietnam's pepper exports in November 2025 are estimated to reach 17 thousand tons, equivalent to 110 million USD. Compared to the previous month, both volume and value decreased, but compared to the same period in 2024, both output and value increased.
In the 11 months of 2025, pepper exports reached about 222 thousand tons with a value of 1.5 billion USD. Although output decreased by 5.5% compared to the same period last year, the value still increased by 23.3% thanks to higher selling prices.
The average export price in 11 months increased by 30.5%, reaching about 6,755 USD/ton. In November alone, this price decreased to 6,443 USD/ton, lower than the previous month and lower than the same period in 2024.
The total turnover of 1.5 billion USD after 11 months has far exceeded the old record of 1.43 billion USD in 2016, opening up the possibility that the pepper industry will close 2025 with outstanding growth.
