The newly launched documentary series “Shopee: Preserving Cultural Identity” celebrates sellers and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) who are preserving heritage and spreading community values through e-commerce .

To mark the occasion, Shopee launched its first-ever impact report, “Shopee: 10 Years of Supporting Sellers,” and a documentary series, “Shopee: Preserving Culture,” across the region. Together, these two publications highlight how businesses and local communities around the world have leveraged Shopee and the power of the digital economy to grow their businesses, preserve cultural heritage, and improve lives over the past decade.
Empowering local businesses in the digital economy
Since its launch in 2015, Shopee has been committed to helping sellers participate and succeed in the digital economy . Over the past decade, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have grown steadily on Shopee, generating over US$270 billion in combined sales – a testament to the transformative role of e-commerce in driving business growth and creating new economic opportunities.
Every year, more and more sellers choose to join Shopee, as the number of MSME businesses doubles on average every year. Of these, up to 80% of sellers in local areas outside major cities have taken advantage of the Shopee platform to reach new buyers in the domestic market and expand business opportunities regionally.
“ We are extremely grateful to the MSME seller community who have been part of Shopee’s journey so far, and who continue to support and grow to create new success stories, ” said Terence Pang, CEO of Shopee.
“The 10-year journey is not only a memorable milestone for Shopee, but also a testament to the enduring strength of Vietnamese sellers in the digital age. In the next phase, Shopee Vietnam will continue to stand side by side and support Vietnamese sellers to promote their strength, spread cultural values and make positive contributions to the national digital economy,” said Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, CEO of Shopee Vietnam.
Support MSMEs to reach consumers and develop e-commerce business
Since its launch, MSME sellers have seen an average increase of more than 300% year-on-year in Shopee Live orders, helping them increase user engagement and drive strong sales.
For sellers without marketing experience or dedicated resources, Shopee Affiliate Marketing Solutions (AMS) helps sellers increase their visibility and expand their customer base by partnering with trusted content creators and key opinion leaders (KOLs). AMS has contributed to a 30% increase in orders for businesses, demonstrating that simple yet relevant marketing tools can still generate significant growth results.
For sellers ready to expand internationally, Shopee Export Online (SEP) simplifies the export journey by making it easy for businesses to list their products across multiple countries in the region. Since 2018, over 2.1 million MSME sellers have joined the program to export, demonstrating that digital commerce continues to create growth opportunities across the region.
Connecting consumers and communities across the region
Today, users in over 400 cities regularly shop on the platform; and over 140 billion items have been delivered to users in suburban areas. These figures are a clear testament to the role of e-commerce in improving quality of life, bridging geographic gaps, and promoting more inclusive access to the digital economy.
Over 97% of Shopee’s workforce is local, while over 23 million affiliates and content creators have joined the Shopee Affiliate Program (SAP) to expand their income streams. To date, affiliate income has increased by an average of over 90% per year, demonstrating that e-commerce not only brings shopping convenience but also opens up opportunities for sustainable livelihoods for the community.
Launch of documentary series "Shopee: Preserving cultural identity"
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Shopee officially introduces the documentary series “Shopee: Preserving Culture” to honor local sellers in Southeast Asian countries and Taiwan (China). They are the typical representatives who inspire the entrepreneurial spirit along with continuing and preserving local culture, thereby contributing to shaping a cohesive and comprehensive digital future.
With seven themes: Nurturing passion; Preserving tradition; Journey of transformation; Aspiration for innovation; Heritage brand ; Community development; Empowering women, the documentary series realistically depicts the aspirations of sellers - those who are gradually developing an online business model while constantly preserving and spreading the unique cultural beauty of the locality.
