Vietnam's digital economy could reach 39 billion USD by 2025

By 2025, Vietnam's digital economy could reach 39 billion USD; more than 40 AI startups attract 123 million USD in investment, with 81% of users interacting with AI daily.

The information was given at the Industry and Trade Digital Transformation Forum 2025 with the theme "Dual transformation: Digitalizing the supply chain - Greening growth", organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the morning of December 3.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan said that the digital economy is becoming an important pillar supporting productivity, expanding markets and increasing the resilience of the economy. Retail e-commerce is forecast to exceed 25 billion USD, continuing to be the main pillar of the internet economy.

The industry and trade sector has strongly transformed on three pillars: digital government , digital economy of the industry and trade sector and data infrastructure; strongly and comprehensively innovated to take advantage of opportunities from digital transformation and green transformation.

According to Mr. Hoang Ninh, Deputy Director of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, the Ministry of Industry and Trade's digital government system has achieved many results with 224 full-service online public services, and a 95.52% digitization rate.

Regarding the digital economy, B2C e-commerce is estimated to reach 25 billion USD in 2024, accounting for 10% of total retail sales. About 90% of processing and manufacturing enterprises have partially deployed digital solutions; 35% have applied robots and sensors; 10-12% have reached the level of smart factory 3.0.

It is expected that by 2025, Vietnam's digital economy will reach 39 billion USD, continuing to be among the fastest growing groups in the region; more than 40 AI startups have attracted 123 million USD in investment, with 81% of users interacting with AI daily.

According to Mr. Ninh, in 2026, the Industry and Trade sector will make a breakthrough in standardizing national e-commerce data, expanding smart factories 3.0-4.0, and widely deploying smart energy measurement and management. These goals will only be achieved effectively when there is synchronous coordination between ministries, sectors, localities and enterprises, aiming for "measurable value" for the economy.

The Industry and Trade Digital Transformation Forum 2025 took place with a plenary session and two thematic workshops. Representatives of management agencies (Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, Department of Industry), Institute of Digital Transformation Strategy and Anti-Fraud Organization... shared new points on cross-border e-commerce, green logistics, and digital solutions for businesses and supply chains. Successful digital transformation experiences were also shared by large corporations (EVN, Vietnam Chemicals, Rang Dong), technology units (Grab, TikTok) and local levels (Phuong Duc commune, Hanoi).
