TPO - After 8 years of construction, the two underground stations Ben Thanh and Ho Chi Minh City Theater (District 1) of the metro line 1 project have been completed. In the future, this will be the connection point for the 4 metro lines 1, 2, 3A and 4.

The architectural highlight of Ben Thanh underground station is the 6 m high, 21.6 m diameter skylight designed in the shape of a lotus flower. This item has the function of providing natural light for a part of the station.

The first floor of the station is about 45,000 m² wide, designed with nearly 200 aluminum-clad concrete pillars, with the function of a waiting room and ticket sales.

At the same time, the underground station has an additional 18,100 m² shopping mall, 21,500 m² underground corridors and squares.

A representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board said that Ben Thanh underground station is designed at a depth of about 32 meters with a 4-storey structure.

All floors have 2 elevators, stairs and escalators for passengers.

Elevators serve passengers moving up and down between the four basement floors below the station.

According to the design, floors B1 and B2 are used for metro line 1. Floors B3 and B4 will be used for metro line 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong) in the future.

After 8 years of construction, Ben Thanh station has completed the structure, architecture (ceiling, granite floor, stairs...), fire protection items, lighting and signaling systems.

The iconic interior mark of the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien Metro line is the 6 m high, 21.6 m diameter toplight designed in the shape of a lotus flower.

Currently, the interior of Ben Thanh station has completed the decoration, lighting system, signs and equipment systems ready to welcome passengers.

The Opera House Underground Station is the second of 14 stations of the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line, 100% completed. The underground station is designed to be 190m long, 26m wide and has 4 floors.

The first floor is the passenger service area such as the waiting room, ticket machines, automatic toll gates, toilets... The second floor is the platform, where trains stop to pick up and drop off passengers.

Opera House Station has 5 entrances and exits. Entrance 5 is at Lam Son Park in front of the Opera House. Entrance 4 opposite is connected directly to the basement of UnionSquare Tower. The remaining 3 entrances are on the other side facing Pasteur Street.

It is expected that if all works go smoothly, the metro line 1 project will operate ticket-free from July this year. In the fourth quarter of 2024, metro line 1 will officially go into commercial operation.
