Villa 49 Tran Hung Dao will open to visitors on January 26.
The project to renovate the model villa at 49 Tran Hung Dao - 46 Hang Bai started in April 2022, within the framework of the cooperation project to research and preserve and promote the value of the French Quarter between Hanoi and the Ile-de-France region.
This villa has a land area of over 990 m2 , was built in the early 20th century, and is one of the buildings that still retains many architectural values.
Speaking to the press, the Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter Management Board (under the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District) said that on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2024, the unit will open the villa at 49 Tran Hung Dao for visitors from January 26.
The first exhibition to welcome visitors to this villa is to display and introduce the process of restoration and renovation of the villa.
Explaining the lime color of an old French villa that cost more than 14 billion to preserve
The Management Board of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter believes that the villa at 49 Tran Hung Dao will soon become a favorite tourist and check-in spot for many young people, similar to the Cultural Center at 22 Hang Buom (Hang Buom Ward, Hoan Kiem District) after its renovation.
Regarding the restoration of this villa, previously, a representative of the Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter Management Board said that the preservation and restoration of this villa encountered many difficulties because documents related to the design were almost gone; the archived images were only black and white photos, and when enlarged, the damaged architecture could not be clearly identified.
Therefore, the relevant parties have conducted research on the architectural style of the villas around this area to proceed with restoration.
"This project has a total investment of about 14.7 billion VND. However, during the renovation process, additional costs have arisen because some items need to be adjusted," said the investor representative, adding that the project investment capital is entirely used from the budget of Hoan Kiem District.
In April 2023, the "original lime color" of the villa at 49 Tran Hung Dao caused a lot of controversy. However, Hoan Kiem District has maintained its stance of preserving the original lime color and the villa still retains that lime color to this day.
After nearly 2 years of renovation, the items of villa number 49 Tran Hung Dao have been relatively completed.
The restoration was carried out carefully, on the principle of preserving the original elements of this work as much as possible.
The villa was built in the early 20th century and is one of the few buildings that still retains many architectural values in Hanoi.
