In his speech commemorating the 20th anniversary of Can Tho City's establishment as a centrally-governed city, Can Tho City Party Secretary Nguyen Van Hieu stated that this event holds significant importance in the political life of the city's Party Committee, government, and people. It is an opportunity to review, revive, and promote the glorious revolutionary historical traditions and achievements of Can Tho in recent years, contributing to the prosperous development of the country.

Over 20 years of construction and development, Can Tho has achieved many important accomplishments in various fields. The Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) for the period 2011-2023 is estimated to have increased by an average of 5.87%; in particular, in 2023, the GRDP (at current prices) is estimated to reach VND 118,000 billion, a 10.2-fold increase compared to 2004; the economic structure has shifted towards trade, services, and industry as the main sectors, and the quality of growth and competitiveness have gradually improved.

Over the past 20 years, Can Tho City has gradually affirmed its role as a regional center in culture, healthcare, education and training, science and technology. The material and spiritual lives of the people have been improved. Socio-economic infrastructure, especially the transportation infrastructure system in Can Tho, is gradually being completed, making the city an important hub for regional and international transportation, gradually affirming its role and position as the central city of the Mekong Delta region.

Event - Can Tho receives the First Class Labor Medal (Figure 2). — The 20th anniversary celebration of Can Tho City's establishment as a centrally-governed city was held at Can Tho Stadium (Cai Khe Ward, Ninh Kieu District).

Infrastructure and tourism products are constantly being invested in and upgraded, contributing to bringing the image of Vietnam and its culture in general, and the land and people of Can Tho in particular, to friends both domestically and internationally. At the same time, attention is paid to investing in the development of socio-economic infrastructure, rapidly changing the appearance of the city. This includes, in particular, the construction of airports, seaports, chemical, sports, medical, and educational facilities, and the development of new rural areas.

At the same time, the project aims to enhance connectivity and synchronization, fundamentally meeting inter-regional transportation needs. Important transportation projects passing through Can Tho, such as the My Thuan - Can Tho expressway; the North-South expressway (Eastern section); the Can Tho - Ca Mau component expressway project; and the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway, are being actively promoted and implemented, contributing to further improving the transportation system and increasing the city's competitiveness.

The achievements of Can Tho serve as a foundation and important impetus for Can Tho's rapid and sustainable development in the future; aiming towards 2030, Can Tho will be an ecological, civilized, and modern city with a strong riverine identity of the Mekong Delta region, a center for the development of industry, trade services, tourism, logistics, high-tech agricultural processing, education and training, and specialized healthcare…

On this occasion, Can Tho City received the First-Class Labor Order from the President of Vietnam.

The 20th anniversary celebration of Can Tho City's establishment as a centrally-governed city also featured special artistic programs with the theme "The Charm of Tay Do," a high-altitude fireworks display, and an art and fashion show program to welcome the new year 2024.
