In recent days, many posts have appeared on social media platforms featuring images of men wearing pink dresses. In reality, these are images created by artificial intelligence (AI) from a photo editing application. This application allows users to upload photos, then select a pink dress filter, and the AI automatically superimposes their faces and bodies onto the dress, creating a realistic image.
When downloading this app, with just an original photo and a tap on the screen, users can easily superimpose their faces onto new outfits using a pre-designed filter. Because the resulting images are relatively realistic and humorous, the images of boys wearing pink dresses quickly became a trend shared across social media.
However, according to experts, using this application carries a very high risk of personal information leakage. Internet users need to be cautious when participating in this photo-creating trend.
As we can see, with the current development of AI, images are extremely valuable data. AI can reveal who a person is, what their interests are, where they usually go, and even who they know, simply through photographs. Therefore, collecting photos and selling them to companies that exploit and utilize the data is quite common.
In cases where apps sell data, the immediate consequence is that users may receive numerous annoying advertisements. In the long term, this data could be exploited for other purposes such as fraud and extortion.
Given these risks, experts advise that users should not download such applications unless they are fully aware of their origin.
To determine if an application is trustworthy, three factors need to be considered:
Consider the app's origin: Check if the app is listed on a legitimate app store, when it was listed, and whether it has received many reviews and feedback from users over a long period. Additionally, a trustworthy app will regularly release security updates.
Review the manufacturer's information, check if they are a reputable manufacturer with clear contact information and address; and whether they have previously released useful applications with many users.
Review the app's access permissions: Users need to check what data the app requests access to (such as photos, contacts, location); they should also carefully read the app's terms and policies to understand how data is collected and used.
