Tensions escalate as Iran attacks US base in Kuwait.

Bloomberg, citing a source close to the incident, reported that Iran fired missiles at the US Ali Al Salem air base in Kuwait. The attack severely damaged or destroyed two US MQ-9 Reaper drones at the base, estimated to be worth around $30 million.

According to sources, Kuwaiti air defenses intercepted an Iranian Fateh-110 missile, but debris struck the base and injured approximately five people, including contractors and military personnel. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has not yet commented. If confirmed, this would be Iran's second attack this week targeting a U.S. base in Kuwait.

Earlier, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed it had targeted a "US air base" in retaliation for a US attack on a location near the airport in the southern Iranian city of Bandar Abbas in the early hours of May 28. The IRGC warned that Iran would not tolerate any "act of aggression," and stressed that further US military actions would face a "more decisive" response.

The IRGC's announcement did not disclose the location of the attacked US military base. However, at the same time, Kuwait, a US ally, announced it was responding to the attacks with missiles and drones. Kuwait is home to US military bases that play a crucial role in Washington's military operations in the Middle East.

According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Iran's Fateh-110 is a short-range ballistic missile capable of carrying a 500kg warhead. Since the beginning of the conflict, Tehran has launched more than 1,850 ballistic missiles at targets around the region in retaliation against the US. The war has consumed a large amount of valuable US ammunition, such as JASSM-ER and Tomahawk cruise missiles, as well as interceptor missiles including THAAD, Patriot PAC-3, and SM-3 Block IIA.

The latest casualty report from the US Department of Defense indicates that the operation resulted in the deaths of 14 US servicemen and injuries to 409 others. To date, no agreement to extend the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran has been signed, while retaliatory attacks continue to increase the risk of escalating conflict throughout the region.
