Along with airstrikes launched on May 26th, immediately after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered an intensified attack on Hezbollah, Israeli forces expanded their military operation deep into southern Lebanon, even crossing the "Golden Line" established under the ceasefire agreement.
In a statement on May 26, Netanyahu confirmed that he had instructed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to increase the intensity of attacks against Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon. This move was in response to a series of drone attacks carried out by Hezbollah in recent days, which have caused significant damage to areas in northern Israel.
Speaking at a Security Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Netanyahu stated that Israel will step up large-scale national efforts to develop solutions to counter explosive-laden drones, which pose a growing threat to Israel and the region.
On May 27, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that Israeli forces had expanded their military operation deeper into southern Lebanon, crossing the "Golden Line" and advancing to seize key areas in southern Lebanon. This move marks a turning point in tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border. The IDF had previously mentioned several strategic locations outside the "Golden Line," which Israel believed could significantly reduce the risk of Hezbollah drone attacks if seized.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon on May 26 killed at least 31 people, including women and children, and injured more than 40. The Lebanese national news agency (NNA) reported that the airstrikes also severely damaged a hospital in Lebanon. Earlier, the Israeli military had issued evacuation warnings for at least 50 towns and villages. The scene of the airstrike targeted the village of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon.
