On May 28, several Iranian state media outlets reported: "Four ships attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and enter the Persian Gulf without coordinating with the security forces responsible for managing the strait." Despite receiving warnings, the four ships ignored them, forcing the Iranian military to fire warning shots and order them to turn back.
Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency further reported that the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fired a warning shot at a "US oil tanker," forcing the ship to turn around. In response, US troops fired into a deserted area near Bandar Abbas.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting and Television (IRIB) also reported the incident, which occurred around 0:35 a.m. on May 28 (local time), but did not provide details about the four ships.
"These ships were warned, but ignored the warnings. After they ignored the warnings, Iranian forces fired at them, forcing the ships to turn around," IRIB added.
The UK Maritime Trade Authority (UKMTO) has not yet received any notification regarding an incident involving ships being fired upon.
The Pentagon and Central Command (CENTCOM) have not commented on the information. The activities of cargo ships and oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz are typically kept secret by shipping companies to ensure the safety of the crew and the vessel.
In related developments, the US military shot down four Iranian drones in the area surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and attacked a ground control station in Bandar Abbas, where a fifth drone was being prepared for launch.
The airstrikes came after President Donald Trump declared Iran was “negotiating until it runs out of steam,” and asserted that the November midterm elections meant he was in no hurry to reach an agreement to end the nearly three-month-long conflict, which has destabilized the global economy .
