According to Lao Cai Provincial General Hospital No. 2, they received a child, NGH (over 3 years old), with pain, blurred vision, swelling, and bleeding in the left eye due to a fishhook lodged in the eye.
According to the family, while the parents were away, the child went fishing with her 12-year-old sister and unfortunately, a fishing hook pierced her eye that afternoon.
After examination and necessary tests, doctors determined that the child had suffered serious eye damage due to a fishhook lodged in the upper eyelid of the left eye. The child exhibited conjunctival congestion, swelling of the upper eyelid, and bleeding.
Immediately afterward, the medical team promptly performed surgery to remove the foreign object and closely monitored the child's condition. After a week of intensive treatment, the child's health stabilized, vision was well preserved, and the child was discharged from the hospital.
Doctors warn that accidents involving fishing hooks can cause serious eye damage, even leading to permanent vision loss if not treated promptly.
People fishing should maintain a safe distance, avoiding standing behind or too close to someone who is casting a fishing line. Young children should not fish or watch fishing without close adult supervision.
In the event of an eye injury caused by a foreign object, absolutely do not attempt to remove the object yourself at home, as this could worsen the injury. The patient should be taken to a specialized medical facility as soon as possible for safe treatment.
