Information from 108 Central Hospital said that recently, the Department of Gastrointestinal Infectious Diseases - Clinical Institute of Infectious Diseases, 108 Central Military Hospital has continuously received cases diagnosed with chickenpox.

Patients were admitted to the hospital with symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle aches, and small round red spots that quickly grew all over the body or appeared sporadically within 12 to 24 hours.

The number of patients with hydrocephalus is increasing.

Many patients with chickenpox, fever and abdominal pain had to be hospitalized for emergency care (photo TL).

These lesions then progress to vesicles, bullae, pustules, and the patient has a cough and loose stools.

Dr. Nguyen Dang Manh, Director of the Institute of Clinical Infectious Diseases, said that chickenpox is caused by the Varicella Zoster virus. The Varicella Zoster virus that causes chickenpox is mainly transmitted through the respiratory tract, through small droplets in the air that are expelled from the respiratory tract such as the nose and mouth of the patient.

In addition, through direct contact with objects such as clothes, blankets and pillows contaminated with the patient's secretions, through direct contact with fluid when the blisters rupture.

In particular, pregnant women with chickenpox can transmit the disease to the fetus through the placenta, causing congenital chickenpox.

The contagious period of chickenpox lasts from 1-2 days before the rash appears until the blisters are completely crusted.

Humid weather is favorable for chickenpox to develop and spread, the disease causes many complications such as pneumonia and encephalitis.

Subsequent sequelae may include deafness, epilepsy, mental and motor developmental delays, etc. Newborns born to mothers with chickenpox during pregnancy may suffer from birth defects.

Chickenpox is not only found in children but also in adults with symptoms that are sometimes more severe.

There is currently no specific treatment for chickenpox. Treatment usually focuses on relieving symptoms and keeping the patient hydrated.

Therefore, taking care of chickenpox patients plays an important role. It is necessary to ensure adequate nutrition, eat soft foods, drink enough water, and drink fruit juice. Clean the nose and throat daily with saline solution, change clothes and bathe daily with clean warm water, and avoid scratching and breaking blisters because it can easily cause secondary infection and scarring.

The disease can spread quickly and become an epidemic, so preventing chickenpox is very important. The most active and effective way to prevent chickenpox is to get vaccinated with the chickenpox vaccine. For older children and adults, it is best to get 2 doses at least 6 weeks apart.
