In an online post on Sunday (November 30), Hong Kong police said they had discovered a fake "application form for victims of the Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po fire" circulating and warned people to be vigilant when providing personal information.

"Police are urging residents to be vigilant and avoid filling out any forms indiscriminately," the notice stated. "Do not provide personal information to strangers, including your name, ID number, bank account number, online banking information, and passwords."
The fire at Wang Fuk Court apartment complex spread through seven buildings, killing at least 146 people, including a firefighter, while 79 others remain injured.
Approximately 40 people are believed to still be missing. Nearly 100 cases have been classified as "unsolvable" due to a lack of information or the inability to contact the person who reported the incident via the hotline.
The fund to support victims of the fire has now reached HK$1.1 billion (US$140 million), including HK$300 million (approximately US$38.5 million) from the government and HK$800 million (US$102 million) from community contributions.
