In the midst of the season of gratitude, we visited the heroic Vietnamese Mothers in Ha Tinh . The silent sacrifices, the beauty of kindness, and the diligence of the mothers have contributed to the golden pages of history of the nation.
Heroic Vietnamese mother Ho Thi Hien.
In the historic July, we returned to the mountainous district of Huong Son to visit the heroic Vietnamese mother Ho Thi Hien (born in 1942, residing in Xuan Thuy village, Kim Hoa commune). This year, mother Hien has turned 81 years old, her hair has turned white from the wind and rain, and her health has also weakened a lot.
There are many things that I don't remember clearly, but when it comes to my husband and children's sacrifices, I remember them very clearly.
Mother Hien's husband was martyr Nguyen Khac Ngoc (1940 - 1968) who died on the battlefield in Southern Laos. Following in their father's footsteps, her three sons all joined the army. Among them, her second son, martyr Nguyen Khac Luong (1962 - 1986), volunteered to go to war and died on the battlefield in Cambodia.
Cultural and social officers of Kim Hoa commune visited and encouraged Vietnamese Heroic Mother Ho Thi Hien
For mother Hien, although the war has been extinguished for decades and the consequences of the war have gradually been overcome, the emotional wound of a mother and wife whose husband and children died has not yet subsided...
Every time she mentioned her husband and son as martyrs, Hien’s mother was extremely proud and moved. Hien’s mother shared: “The war was very fierce, many people sacrificed for national independence, so even though my husband and son had to stay on the battlefield, I still accepted and felt very proud of that sacrifice. I only regret that my husband and son did not live to see the day our homeland was liberated.”
Now, mother Hien is living happily with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the care of the Party and State, the sharing and regular visits from neighbors and today's young generation... that is the greatest joy for her.
Mother Ho Thi Hien with her youngest son, Mr. Nguyen Khac Thiep.
For her children, mother Hien has always been a spiritual support, a shining example for everyone to strive and follow. Mr. Nguyen Khac Thiep - the youngest son of mother Hien confided: “When my father sacrificed, I was still young so I could not fully feel this pain. I only remember that, without the shadow of my father, my mother had to endure so much hardship. Regardless of day and night, my mother worked hard to take care of us. When my brother joined the army and received his death notice, my mother almost collapsed. However, overcoming the pain, she still persevered and continued. She is the motivation for us to try to contribute our best to the Fatherland.”
Heroic Vietnamese mother Tran Thi Dieu.
Suffering the pain of losing two sons in the resistance war against America, Vietnamese Heroic Mother Tran Thi Dieu (born in 1922), residing in Dong Chau village, Thach Ngoc commune (Thach Ha) could only "cry silently", suppressing her feelings to move on.
This year, at 101 years old, Mother Dieu is no longer agile, her hearing is not clear, she also talks less, smiles less but is still very enthusiastic when guests come to visit. Although she does not remember many memories, when looking at the two "Fatherland's Gratitude" certificates of her two sons, Mother Dieu falls into deep thought and sadly says: "I miss you so much, I miss my two sons so much...!".
Mother Dieu had two sons, martyr Phan Danh Lai (1952 - 1974) and martyr Phan Danh Ngo (1954 - 1974).
Mother Dieu is always proud of her children's sacrifices that have contributed to weaving a golden page of history for the nation.
In 1973, Dieu's mother saw her two sons off to join the army. In August 1974, the eldest son Phan Danh Lai heroically sacrificed himself in Quang Nam . Holding the death certificate in her hand, Dieu's mother's heart ached, and she cried silently. The pain had not yet subsided when, in November of that year, her son Phan Danh Ngo also died on the battlefield in Quang Tri. Once again, Dieu's mother had to endure heartbreaking pain...
Mother Dieu is living happily with her third son's family.
Mr. Phan Danh Dung - the third son of Dieu's mother shared: "In the years after the two brothers passed away, the family searched for their graves but there was no information, which made my mother even more anxious. After many years of searching, the family found Phan Danh Ngo's grave at the Martyrs' Cemetery of Hai Lang District (Quang Tri) and Phan Danh Lai's grave at the Martyrs' Cemetery of Dai Lanh Commune, Dai Loc District (Quang Nam). Since then, my mother has felt more at ease."
Each heroic Vietnamese mother is a meaningful story about the spirit of noble sacrifice for the homeland and country, making us appreciate the value of peace even more. The country is peaceful and increasingly developing, the Party, the State and society are increasingly interested in the work of gratitude. For mothers, that is the greatest spiritual encouragement.
