To implement the peak period against IUU fishing, the Provincial Border Guard Command will closely coordinate with the police force, the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the People's Committees of communes, wards, and coastal zones in the province to mobilize and concentrate resources to patrol and control fishing vessels entering and leaving ports; ensure that fishing vessels leaving ports to participate in fishing activities must have a confirmation of departure from the fishing port and the border guard; vessels entering ports through border posts and stations must be notified to the fishing port, the commune-level police, and local authorities for control and handling if they do not dock to unload exploited aquatic products according to regulations; not to allow unqualified fishing vessels to participate in activities, focusing on implementing management solutions in key areas where fishing vessels and fishermen violate. The forces will also focus on propagating and guiding 100% of fishing vessel owners, captains, and fishermen to use the function of declaring entry and exit procedures through border control stations on the national population database (VNelD); Organize and effectively carry out the peak period of patrolling, controlling and handling "3 no" fishing vessels (no registration, no fishing license, no inspection participating in fishing at sea) on islands, estuaries and beaches.

* Ms. Ho Thi Hai - Vice Chairman of Nam Nha Trang Ward People's Committee:

Tightly manage fishing vessels at risk of IUU violations

Mrs. Ho Thi Hai.

In Nam Nha Trang ward, there are currently 545 fishing vessels with a length of 6m or more, of which 148 vessels are at risk of violating IUU. To strengthen the fight against IUU fishing, especially the management of fishing vessels at risk of violating IUU, in the coming time, the locality will closely coordinate with border guards, the Department of Fisheries, Sea and Islands, and relevant agencies to promote propaganda to help fishermen understand the provisions of the law and the consequences of IUU fishing. The locality will also focus on controlling and strictly managing information related to fishing vessels at risk of violating IUU; coordinate with competent agencies to strengthen inspection, grasp the situation and organize fishing vessels at risk of violating IUU to sign a commitment to strictly comply with the provisions of the law on seafood exploitation.

* Mr. Le Quy Don - Owner of fishing boat KH 94358 TS:

Say no to illegal fishing

Mr. Le Quy Don.
Mr. Le Quy Don.

Having been involved in seafood exploitation for many years, I am deeply aware of the impacts of the IUU “yellow card” on the lives of fishermen. More than anyone else, we fishermen must be pioneers in combating IUU fishing, must know how to say no to IUU fishing and absolutely not let our fishing vessels violate foreign waters, because these are prerequisites for removing the EC’s “yellow card” warning. During our operations, I and many other fishermen always adhere to the commitment of not violating IUU, when exploiting seafood, we always ensure the mandatory conditions, especially installing and maintaining a 24/7 connection to the fishing vessel monitoring device for vessels 15m or longer in length. However, currently, there are many cases where the connection signal to the fishing vessel monitoring device is lost when going to sea, affecting the operation of fishing vessels, as well as the monitoring and supervision of fishing vessels operating at sea by authorities. Therefore, authorities need to consult with suppliers of equipment and services for monitoring fishing vessel journeys to fix the loss of signal connection.
