Moisten and cool down lychee trees before harvest.
To protect lychee fruits during hot weather, farmers in Hai Phong proactively implement measures to maintain moisture, limiting scorching and cracking of the fruit, which affects its appearance and quality.

Hai Phong city has over 4,000 hectares of lychee orchards, concentrated in the districts of Thanh Ha, Ha Bac, Nguyen Trai, Tran Hung Dao, and Tran Nhan Tong, with an expected yield of 20,000 tons. This is a specialty lychee variety of the city with a proven brand quality. The lychee trees are currently in the budding stage and will be ready for harvest in about 10-15 days. In recent days, the hot weather, if not prevented, will cause the lychee fruit peel to burn and crack, reducing its economic value.
To proactively protect the lychee fruit, farmers have implemented measures to irrigate and provide moisture to the trees. Depending on the specific hot weather conditions, farmers will water accordingly, from 2 to 3 times a day. Besides watering the roots of the trees, people also water the fruit to soothe the skin during hot weather. Regularly moisturizing lychee fruits will help prevent skin burning and cracking. During this period, farmers refrain from spraying pesticides to ensure the required waiting period, but they still keep detailed records of production activities to facilitate product traceability.NGUYEN MO
