Accordingly, while eating birthday cake at home, little boy D.QB suddenly felt something stuck in his throat, pain, and vomited. Relatives suspected that he was choking, so they immediately took him to a medical facility for examination.
At Dong Nai Children's Hospital, baby D.QB showed signs of neck pain, drooling, fatigue, and inability to eat or drink. Doctors quickly administered anesthesia, performed an emergency endoscopy, and discovered a piece of plastic in the patient's esophagus, so they removed it.
Dr. Ngo Van Phan, Head of the Interdisciplinary Department, Dong Nai Children's Hospital, said: If the foreign object is left in the child's esophagus for a long time, it can cause esophagitis, abscesses, and even mediastinitis, which is life-threatening. This foreign object is a small, thin, transparent piece of plastic, so it is very difficult to detect. In particular, this foreign object is not radiopaque, making it very difficult to detect on X-rays.
Dr. Phan recommends that when cutting cakes or feeding children, parents should pay attention to removing foreign objects in the food. Do not let children eat while watching phones, laughing, running around to avoid choking. If you detect signs of choking, quickly take the child to a medical facility for timely emergency care.
