Update international standards in the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy

More than 1,500 delegates, including more than 100 domestic and foreign reporters, attended the first National Scientific Conference organized by the Vietnam Interventional Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Association in Ha Long on October 4.

The first Vietnam Interventional Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Scientific Conference attracted the participation of many domestic and foreign experts.

The national scientific conference “Advancing Endoscopy Practice: Global Insights for Local Impact” is a major academic forum on interventional endoscopy.

Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Cong Long, President of the Vietnam Interventional Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Association, commented: The first scientific conference is an important milestone, marking the maturity of the interventional gastrointestinal endoscopy profession in Vietnam. The conference carries a clear message, that is, we proactively update international standards and flexibly innovate to suit Vietnamese practice.

More than anything, it is necessary to translate specialized knowledge into processes, techniques, and organizational models that can be applied and replicated at both the specialized and primary levels. The value is only truly complete when advances become specific solutions, standardized processes, and inter-hospital support networks that help colleagues in all regions master the techniques and serve patients right at the local level.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Cong Long, President of the Vietnam Interventional Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Association, delivered the opening speech at the Conference.

The scientific sessions focused on updating international standards and discussing advanced techniques: submucosal dissection; transoral esophageal myectomy; endoscopic ultrasound; biliary-pancreatic intervention… as well as solutions for treating early neoplasms with high-frequency waves, microwaves… Many direct intervention cases were shown, helping to increase training and experience sharing.

The Vietnam Interventional Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Association was established in January 2025. Over the past 9 months, the Association has organized 9 professional seminars, becoming an important academic forum, contributing to standardizing and improving endoscopy practice nationwide.

According to statistics, Vietnam currently has about 8,000 to 10,000 gastroenterologists, of which about 5,000 are gastroenterologists. Diagnostic endoscopy is increasingly popular, including units in provinces and cities, but many units still use the old system to reduce costs. The integration and development of advanced techniques in gastroenterology such as endoscopic ultrasound, along with many advanced techniques are expected to create a breakthrough, raise the quality standards of diagnosis and treatment, thereby improving the quality of examination and treatment for people.
