Cape Verde is set to receive a hefty bonus from FIFA. |
In the early morning of October 14, Cape Verde – with a population of just under 600,000 people – defeated Eswatini 3-0, thereby making its name in the biggest football festival on the planet for the first time in history.
Not only does this achievement have professional significance, it also brings a huge bonus to Cape Verde. Following the trend of previous World Cups, FIFA often gradually increases the bonus for participating teams.
In Brazil 2014, the bonus for the team participating in the group stage was 5 million USD , Russia 2018 increased it to 8 million USD and Qatar 2022 is 9 million USD . At the 2026 World Cup, experts predict that this number will continue to increase, at least approaching or exceeding the 10 million USD mark.
In particular, the 2026 World Cup will have a new format with 48 teams and an additional round of 32. This means that if Cape Verde makes it past the group stage, they will receive a significant bonus.
This is a huge boost for a team with a modest squad value. According to Transfermarkt , the entire Cape Verde squad is currently valued at just $31 million . Their most expensive stars are Wagner Pina (Trabzonspor) and Kevin Lenini (Krasnodar), both valued at around $5.7 million .
For Cape Verde, this historic journey is not only a source of national pride but also promises to bring in record financial gains, contributing to changing the face of football in this country.
