The 65-year-old strategist has agreed to take over Brazil from May 26, when the La Liga season officially ends.

The veteran Italian has been CBF's top choice since Dorival Jr was sacked in March 2025.

Dorival lost his job after Selecao's humiliating 1-4 defeat to arch-rival Argentina in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

In the deal brokered by businessman Diego Fernandes, Ancelotti will become the first foreign coach to lead the Brazilian national team.

He will start his job with two World Cup qualifiers next month, against Ecuador and Paraguay.

Ancelotti's contract with the CBF runs until the 2026 World Cup, similar to Thomas Tuchel's with England.

Brazil is currently ranked 4th in the South American qualifying table for the 2026 World Cup. The top six teams will qualify for the finals in the US, Canada and Mexico next year.

Brazilian Football Confederation leaders also expressed their sincere gratitude to Real Madrid and president Florentino Perez for allowing Ancelotti to leave before the end of the club season.

Ancelotti will have his farewell match with the Royal team on May 25 (against Sociedad), before officially signing with the Brazilian Football Confederation.
