These programs not only contribute to building and raising awareness of heritage, strengthening the connection and close relationship between heritage and students, schools and families, but also contribute to raising the responsibility of the young generation in preserving, conserving and promoting the precious heritages of the nation.

Innovative approach

In the 2000s, the museum’s heritage education program was still struggling to find its way. Students came here mainly for passive sightseeing, lacking opportunities to explore, experience, and interact directly with the heritage.

Since 2013, the Museum of Cham Sculpture has adjusted the way it organizes educational programs. Accordingly, it organizes thematic classes for groups of students based on age and school curriculum.

The purpose of the classes, in terms of knowledge, is for students to come into contact with and learn about sculptures, thereby improving their understanding of Champa culture, history, and art.

In terms of skills, the lessons help students develop creativity and necessary life skills such as: working independently and in groups, presenting, writing, searching - collecting - connecting museum artifacts with real life, observing - analyzing, logical reasoning...

With this new awareness, the Education Department of the Cham Sculpture Museum piloted the program “What is your favorite spirit animal?” for primary school students aged 6-10. The program attracted the participation of many schools in the city, bringing a new breeze to the museum’s educational work and setting the stage for changes in the following years.

The Education staff also piloted the program “Discover with Me” for primary and secondary schools. Through this, students can learn more about the history of Quang Nam - Da Nang in the process of Vietnamese - Cham cultural exchange and learn about some artifacts associated with Cham relics in their locality and the museum's national treasures. The program is integrated with experiential activities such as woodblock printing, drawing, painting; quiz games such as lucky numbers, mysterious pictures; physical games such as overcoming obstacles, throwing balls, and finishing teams.

Initial results

It can be said that " Discovering with you" is a successful educational program of the Cham Sculpture Museum thanks to the selection of interesting topics, supplementing the school curriculum, as well as integrating physical and intellectual activities suitable for the age and psychology of students.

After each program for secondary school students, the Education Department conducts a survey of participating students to record feedback and then change and improve the next programs if necessary. Through the survey, the feedback shows the level of student satisfaction, especially in interactive activities and games.

Participating in the program, Nguyen Cao Thao Nguyen (class 6/3, Tran Hung Dao Secondary School) expressed: “Participating in the game is not only fun but also helps me discover many new things that I have never known before. I am really excited! If there is a next time, I really hope to participate again to continue learning and experiencing more.”

In another survey, Phan Bao Khang (grade 6/9, Kim Dong Secondary School) commented: “Before coming to the Cham Sculpture Museum, I thought History was dry and difficult to approach. But after admiring the national treasures and listening to the stories behind each statue, I felt like I was entering a mysterious and dramatic world. There are things that even scientists have yet to explain. I was especially impressed with the statue of Shiva - a masterpiece associated with a legendary and enchanting dance.”

In recent years, with strong changes in the application of technology, especially AI in supporting teachers and learners, museums are aiming to enhance these applications in developing new heritage education activities, integrating technological "assistants" in exploring heritage at the museum, supporting "remote" classes, or for special subjects such as children with disabilities.
