Carlos Alcaraz, the 22-year-old Spaniard who regained the world number one ranking after winning the US Open earlier this month, worried fans when he had to call for medical attention at 2-2 in the first set. He hurt his left foot while trying to return the ball, forcing him to wrap his ankle before returning to the court.

Despite not looking comfortable, Alcaraz still played with confidence, breaking his opponent's serve to take a 5-4 lead before closing out the first set with a 6-4 victory. After a short break due to rain, the number one seed continued to dominate the second set and did not drop a single service game, winning the match after 90 minutes of play.

With this result, Alcaraz raised his season record to 63 wins, 7 losses, including 48 wins in the last 51 matches. The achievement shows the extremely stable performance of the young tennis player who is at the peak of his career.

Sharing after the match, Alcaraz admitted: “I was really nervous. I felt my ankle was not good at all. At that time, I thought I would not be able to continue. So I am really happy that I was still able to compete and win.”

The Spanish tennis player confirmed that he will try his best to recover to be ready for the next match.

In the second round, Carlos Alcaraz will face Belgian Zizou Bergs. If he wins the 2025 Tokyo Open, Alcaraz will become the sixth player in history to win the tournament while being world number one.
