On the afternoon of October 9, Ulsan HD Club announced the decision to fire coach Shin Tae Yong after only 2 months of working. In addition to coach Shin, the club's director, Mr. Kim Gwang Kook, also announced his resignation to take responsibility for the team's poor performance in recent times.
"We have decided to terminate the contract with coach Shin Tae Yong, who was appointed in early August. Both sides have officially ended their short period of cooperation," the announcement on the Ulsan HD Club's homepage said.
Also according to this announcement, starting from round 33 of K-League 1, youth training director Noh Sang Rae will temporarily take on the role of head coach.

“Under the interim leadership of coach Noh Sang Rae, who has coaching experience in the K-League, we will coordinate with our assistants to quickly get out of the crisis. At the same time, the club will also quickly look for a new coach to complete the set goals,” Ulsan HD Club affirmed.
For his part, coach Shin Tae Yong said he was surprised to receive the decision to fire him from the team's leadership. However, the former captain of the Indonesian team completely accepted it.
“Although it was very sudden, I still had to respect the club’s decision. I was appointed in an urgent situation and tried my best, but the pressure was enormous. I tried to revive the team amidst many difficulties, but all the challenges were beyond my imagination. It is truly regrettable that I could not bring the expected results,” Mr. Shin expressed.
Thus, in less than a year, coach Shin Tae Yong lost his job twice. At the beginning of the year, he was fired by the Indonesian Football Federation, then appointed by Ulsan in August. However, the former Korean player only helped the team win 2 victories after 10 matches, the rest were 4 draws and 4 losses, in which the most recent 0-4 defeat against Gimcheon Sangmu was the last straw.
After 32 rounds, Ulsan HD FC fell to 10th place on the rankings with 37 points, nearly 30 points behind the leading team Jeonbuk Hyundai. Ulsan's next match will be against Gwangju on October 18. If they cannot improve their performance, the reigning K-League champions are at risk of relegation.
