On the evening of August 4th, Carlos Yulo competed in the vault event of gymnastics. This is the Filipino athlete's specialty, having won the world championship in 2021. The Filipino athlete won the gold medal in the vault at the 2024 Olympics. Second place went to Artur Davtyan (Armenia) with only 14.966 points. The bronze medal went to Great Britain's Harry Hepworth with 14.949 points. This is Carlos Yulo's second gold medal at the 2024 Olympics. Carlos Yulo made history in Philippine sports as the first person to win more than one Olympic gold medal. Prior to that, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz became the first from the Philippines to win a gold medal. In Southeast Asian gymnastics, Carlos Yulo is not an unfamiliar name. To date, he has won a total of two world gold medals, ten Asian gold medals, and nine SEA Games gold medals. The Filipino athlete is so dominant in the region that, in addition to his specialties of floor exercise and vault, he has also won gold in rings, parallel bars, horizontal bar, and the all-around. The only individual event in which Carlos Yulo has never won gold is the pommel horse. A second gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics would not only be a feat for Carlos Yulo but also a feat for Philippine sports.
