After just two weeks in theaters, "A Minecraft Movie" has officially become the highest-grossing Hollywood film of 2025 to date - an incredible achievement that shows the irresistible appeal of the virtual world of Minecraft on the big screen.

The animated film co-produced by Warner Bros. and Legendary continued to prove its box office power when it earned an additional $80.6 million in the North American market in its second week of release.

Although this figure is only half of the previous impressive opening revenue, with a total domestic revenue reaching 281 million USD, along with 269 million USD from the international market, "A Minecraft Movie" has broken a series of records, becoming the most successful video game adaptation of all time.

Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics (only 46% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes), "A Minecraft Movie" seems to have found a common voice with a large audience - who increasingly tend to support big-budget video game adaptations.

With a production budget of 150 million USD, the film directed by Jared Hess, with the voice acting of stars Jack Black and Jason Momoa, has contributed to reviving the film market, which had a rather gloomy start this year.

Total box office revenue over the weekend doubled compared to the same period in 2024, according to global media analytics and measurement firm Comscore.

Before "A Minecraft Movie" came out, box office revenue in 2025 was still 11% lower than last year, but that gap has now nearly closed. However, Comscore also points out that revenue so far in 2025 is still 31% behind the same period in 2019.

New releases this weekend like Angel Studios' "The King of Kings , " Walt Disney Co.'s "The Amateur, " Universal Pictures' "Drop" and A24's "Warfare" couldn't compete with the might of "Minecraft." But some films performed beyond expectations.

"The King of Kings" - an animated film about the life of Jesus - took second place on the North American box office chart with $19.1 million from 3,200 theaters.

The film is loosely adapted from Charles Dickens' children's book with a voice cast that includes Oscar Isaac, Kenneth Branagh and Uma Thurman.

With an impressive "A+" audience score on CinemaScore, "The King of Kings" is expected to continue its success next week, ahead of Easter.

Third place went to Disney and 20th Century’s action thriller “The Amateur,” which grossed $15 million in North America. The film stars Rami Malek as a quiet, clumsy cryptanalyst who turns ruthless as he hunts down the person behind the attack that killed his wife.

In fourth place was A24’s military action film “Warfare ,” which grossed $8.3 million. The film was inspired by co-director Ray Mendoza’s real-life experiences as a U.S. Navy officer.

Meanwhile, the 5th place belongs to the horror film "Drop" co-produced by Universal and Blumhouse Productions, with a revenue of 7.5 million USD.

The film revolves around a widow (played by Meghann Fahy) who is plagued by haunting, strange calls while on her first date after years of being single.

The remaining films in the list of 10 highest-grossing domestic films:

6. The Chosen: Last Supper (Part 3): 6 million USD

7. A Working Man : $3.1 million

8. Snow White: $2.8 million

9. The Woman in the Yard : 2.1 million USD

10. The Chosen: Last Supper (Part 2): 932,106 USD./.
