Noc Kham Carving Club in Na Sam town Contributes to spreading the movement of singing Then and playing Tinh lute in the community

Not only do the club members make important contributions to preserving folk songs at the grassroots level, but they are also active in preserving the traditional cultural values of the Tay and Nung ethnic groups in Lang Son” - That is the comment of Mr. Phung Van Muon, Deputy Director of the Provincial Center for Culture and Arts, Chairman of the Lang Son Province Folk Song Conservation Association.

The Noc Kham Carving Club of Na Sam town was established on August 1, 2014 according to the establishment decision of the Provincial Folk Song Preservation Association, and has been maintained to date with over 20 members of all ages (from 12 to 75 years old).

Meritorious artist Hoang Thi Thuy, Head of the Noc Kham Khac Club in Na Sam town, said: In the Tay language, the name of the club means the name of a bird. This bird has a call "Kham Khac" and often lives on high mountains and has a clear and far-reaching song. Like the Kham Khac birds, the club members will perform beautiful and meaningful songs, contributing positively to preserving and spreading the good traditional cultural values of the nation. With a strong love for Then and Tinh, each member of the club has strived to overcome initial difficulties and obstacles to learn how to play and sing. Up to now, all club members know how to play Tinh, sing Then... and everyone has a "firm hand and sweet voice".

At the Club, since 2016, Meritorious Artist Hoang Thi Thuy has been both the chairperson and the person who directly teaches Then songs to the Club members. At the same time, she has also composed nearly 20 Then songs with new lyrics based on Then melodies with themes praising the homeland of Van Lang, typically the songs: Van Lang my hometown, Hoi hong vanh khuyen, Mai truong high school Hoi Hoan, Van Lang tuoc dep... Meritorious Artist Hoang Thi Thuy has also directly staged the performances. Up to now, the Club members can perform nearly 200 Then, sli, luon, phong slu, and vu chau songs.

Ms. Le Thi Minh Khoi, a member of the Noc Kham Khac Club in Na Sam town, said: I am one of the first members of the Club. When I first joined, I was very confused because it was the first time I held a guitar and sang Then. Like the other members, I, with our passion, always practice hard and try hard. Up to now, we have all mastered the way to play the guitar and sing some tunes, and confidently participate in performances on many stages in and outside the province.

From 2014 to present, the Club has participated in nearly 400 performances serving the political tasks of the town, the district and exchange programs, performances, competitions inside and outside the province. In which, in most of the competitions, performances, the Club has had performances that won high prizes, typically: "Hop co ban em" won the A prize at the Festival of mass art clubs of the province in 2014; A prize at the first festival of singing then, singing folk songs of Van Lang district in 2018; the performance "Khau tu me mu" won the A prize at the first festival of singing then, playing Tinh lute of the expanded provincial clubs in 2019; the excerpt "Le cau bjoc" won the first prize at the first festival of folk songs, folk dances, folk music of Lang Son province in 2020...

Along with that, the Provincial Radio and Television Station regularly cooperates with the Club to film over 30 programs of traditional music and folk singing lessons on television. In addition, the Club's performances are also widely promoted by folk music lovers on social networking sites and are known by many people.

Ms. Nong Thi Luan, Deputy Director of the Center for Culture, Sports and Communication of Van Lang district, said: Noc Kham Khac Club of Na Sam town is the first cultural and artistic club established in the district. During its operation, the club has always developed and innovated in terms of content and performance forms. In recent times, the club has regularly participated in performances in events serving the political tasks and traditional festivals of the district, representing the district in many competitions and performances and achieving high results.

With positive contributions to the work of preserving and maintaining folk songs, the members and collectives of the Club have been recognized many times by all levels and sectors and awarded certificates of merit.
