According to Le Hoang Phuc, one of the first people in Vietnam to play this sport, speed badminton is a racket sport that combines elements from other sports, similar to badminton and tennis.
There are quite a few reasons why speed badminton fascinates young people. “Because when playing badminton, you can’t play if it’s windy. Tennis, on the other hand, is probably a bit of a luxury for students like us. But speed badminton solves both of these problems. The shuttlecock is fitted with a wind ring to prevent it from flying around erratically in windy conditions. The equipment is also inexpensive and affordable for students,” shared Thanh Luan, a student at Van Lang University.
Another advantage, according to fans of this novel sport, is that it can be played… at night. “The balls even have built-in lights, so you can play in the dark. Playing at night is also cooler,” Hoàng Phúc added.
Not to mention, this rather interesting sport can be played anytime, anywhere you like. "While badminton or tennis require courts with strict rules and nets to determine winners and losers, speedminton can be played anywhere, from the streets, beaches, multi-purpose gyms… any court can be played," shared Hoang Uy, a student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry.
With so many advantages, it's easy to understand why young people are attracted to this sport. Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has many venues dedicated to speed badminton, such as: the Army Housing Complex (Phan Van Tri Street, Go Vap District), Gia Dinh Park (Go Vap District)... However, the place with the most players is Phu Tho Gymnasium. From 5 am to 8 pm every day, a large number of young people come here to try this sport. "Once you try it, you get hooked without even realizing it. It can be said that the emergence of speed badminton not only gives sports lovers more choices, but also becomes a trendy fad among young people," said Tuan Anh, who has been playing speed badminton for nearly 3 months.
If you enjoy it and want to give it a try, it's not difficult to get started. There are many speedminton players in the community on social networks like YuMe, Facebook, and forums such as http://speedmintonvn.com, https://www.facebook.com/speedmintonvn... which can answer all kinds of questions, including rules of the game, for new members.
Reportedly, clubs in Ho Chi Minh City are currently collaborating to organize speed badminton tournaments in the near future.
