22-year-old player dies after suffering a stroke on the pitch

According to The Sun , Zondi suddenly collapsed during the warm-up before the South African Second Division match between Durban City and Milford FC, which took place on April 22. Despite being rushed to the emergency room, Zondi did not survive and was confirmed dead at the hospital.

The match was abandoned at half-time as the sad news was announced to both teams. Durban City FC released an emotional statement, paying tribute to their hard-working team-mate: “It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of Sinamandla Zondi, aka Sgora, a beloved member of the Durban City family."

"Sinamandla was not only a talented footballer, but also a friend, a brother, a son and an inspiration to all who knew him," the South African team said.

Zondi, who began his professional career in 2021, has been a mainstay in Durban City’s defence this season. His sudden departure has shocked the club and fans, especially as Durban City were in pole position to gain promotion to the top flight of South African football.

The official cause of Zondi's death has not yet been determined, and authorities are conducting further investigations.
