According to the plan, the Vietnam U23 team will leave for Indonesia on the morning of July 14 to participate in the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, taking place from July 15 to 29. Vietnam U23 is in Group B with Laos U23 and Cambodia U23, competing on July 19 and 22 respectively.
Having won the championship in the last two consecutive seasons (2022, 2023), the Vietnam U23 team continues to receive great expectations from fans in their journey to defend the throne. However, coach Kim Sang-sik affirmed that the whole team will approach the tournament with a spirit of high concentration and not be subjective.
“Winning consecutive championships is something to be proud of, but we don’t want to put too much pressure on the players. Football is a team sport , and I always emphasize teamwork and discipline in competition. I always encourage the players to see this tournament as an opportunity to grow and develop, rather than just aiming for results. The results, in my opinion, will be a natural consequence of that process,” said Mr. Kim.
Coach Kim also said that this tournament is an opportunity for the coaching staff to test and evaluate the squad for the U23 Asian qualifiers and the 33rd SEA Games. “The tournament is an opportunity for the coaching staff to evaluate the abilities of each player and find combinations for tactical cohesion. For young players, this is also a valuable opportunity to gain international competition experience,” the Korean strategist added.
